How Important Are Backlink Relevance vs Quantity?

One link from a site in your actual niche beats a hundred random links every time, google's gotten way better at spotting link spam, so if it doesn't make sense for a site to link to you, it won't help your rankings much.
Focus on quality over quantity if you want to stay safe and actually move up the search results.

I always prefer a few highly relevant backlinks from niche-related sites instead of many general links. Google looks at how closely the linking site matches your topic, so relevant links carry more weight and trust.

Quantity still has some role, but only as support. Too many low-quality or unrelated links can look unnatural and may not help rankings.

What works for me:
  • Focus on niche-relevant backlinks
  • Keep the link profile natural and balanced
  • Avoid spammy bulk link building

Relevance is the first important factor to measure the quality of backlink, there are many other important factors to check before getting backlinks
1: Relevancy not just relevant topics but also check the ranking keywords , must should be relevant to your niche
2: current traffic graph (growing graph is great)
3:number of linking domains and their quality
3: ratio of number of outbound link sand inbound links
I don't rely on so called DA, DRs

backlinks quality beat quantity every time because relevant websites have much bigger impact on SEO

I'd always choose relevance over quantity. A few backlinks from niche-relevant, trusted websites tend to outperform a large number of generic links.
 
Relevance is far more important than quantity in modern SEO A few high quality topically relevant backlinks usually provide more long term value than a large number of unrelated or low quality links.
 
A few backlinks from trusted, niche-related websites usually have a bigger long-term impact than dozens of unrelated links
