Let me give you my background information before I get into the story. At the time I did this I was 15, a sophomore at my high school. My high school is the local public school with around 2000 kids. I'm the guy who is always looking to make a sale at anything possible. I usually hung out with a more popular crowd, and I'm a varsity athlete.
One day I had got the idea to create a facebook page titled "You know you go to {High School} if..." On a daily basis me and a friend of mine updated the page with everything we saw at our high school, with a sort of mocking tone. Eventually this facebook page gained popularity, and in little over a month. We thought we'd take this a step farther. We got the idea to create T-Shirts. Well, my buddy didn't really want to put up much capital so I ended up putting around 70% of it in there, thus I got 70% of the profits.
I spent about a week working on a T-Shirt design and came up with a good design on the front, and it had a catchy list of our facebook posts on the back. All during the design time, I of course of was going around telling everyone about them. I went to ooshirts website (Good Company) and ordered the shirts from them for about $5-6 a shirt.
As soon as they came in, I stored them in a few extra lockers I had and came to them when I had a customer. I sold them for $15 a piece, and heck even some of the teachers bought them. I ordered somewhere around 60 I believe I don't remember. I had sold out of them in nearly a week. It was great, holding that wad of cash in my hand.
I did however, run into some trouble. Our assistant principle didn't like how I was mocking the school. Long story short, I had been assigned a detention and told me to quit selling (I already sold out there
). However the student body didn't like the news of me getting detention. They scheduled a protest on facebook. Eventually even more so the news got into the situation, with our principle violating free speech. Who called? The journalists of course. However later that day the Head Principle called my dad and basically said "I don't care anymore, he doesn't have a detention."
In the end, I get media attention, climb the social ladder a little higher, and make around $400. Down side, I'm basically black listed by that assistant principle. (Doesn't matter though, every other office member loves me)
