Hey all,
I made $15,000+ so far from Amazon by promoting coronavirus related products. Truth is earnings are closer to $20,000 once you add in Canada, Australia and UK Amazon stores but the international earnings tab won't let me show the entire year and I'm not screenshottin 4 different stores to prove that.
Either way, I did good and I'd like to share what I did for the following reasons:
Analytics:
Overall screenshot for the year
Location breakdown and general stats
Organic tab, shows that multiple search engines liked what I did.
Search Console:
Google sent traffic to me almost instantly.
What I did:
In mid January I was following the coronavirus news. At this point it was a mild concern, no one knew what it would turn into or how it would seemingly permanently re-shape our world.
on January 20th I noticed that cases had gone from 500 or so to over 2500 in China, this was over 48 hours. I figured it was going to become a thing after going for a meal with friends one night I heard 2 separate people bring it up on tables behind me. At this point it seemed like a concern people had, but not a serious one.
I figured it was probably worth writing content for, so I did. I wrote content for coronavirus masks, virus masks in general, UV sterilizers, air filters and virus suits. I put all of this onto a 2 year old test site that was already ranking for unrelated keywords and has some (but not much) authority. I indexed this content in search console.
I had been looking for a niche to get into early since following the 10beasts.com success story where the creator put down his success to something he called "timeroid" SEO. You can read more about that here from the 10beasts creator:
This was not my first foray into this technique, I had used it a few months earlier to rank for black friday keywords and had some success.
I remember searching for intitle:"best coronavirus mask" and I was the only website that came up. I got in at the bottom floor and over the next 48 hours this happened.
Google loved it and I was ranking #2 for "best coronavirus mask" just as the topic exploded and people became scared. I was on page 1 with national news papers and only 1 of them was outranking me for "coronavirus masks". Traffic exploded from organic, this was without links or anything else. All I did was index the page in search console.
This continued and I ended up making a bunch of money until my big money page was manually filtered out by Google after the media caught onto mask shortages, price fixing and 5G misinformation. Google packed the first 10 pages with government agencies, health sites and EDU sites pushing me out until an update later on.
How I did it: Keyword Research
If you want to do "timeroid" SEO keyword research is the major key. To do this you need to understand that there are two main types of keyword tool in SEO
First we have tools that are based of databases like Ahrefs, SEMRush and Moz. These are good for long term planning for SEO but useless for timeroid SEO. These tools get their data from clickstream data, this is basically recordings of what real people searched online (typically from free VPN or security products) that then gets processed by Ahrefs and built into the rest of their data. You are paying to basically access their databased of keywords, the same keywords that every other person who pays them has access too.
These tools are not good for finding fresh keywords that other SEO's are not targetting, the keywords these tools provide are provided to every other SEO in your niche. You and your competitors are eating out of the same trough. If you search these tools for coronavirus keywords today nothing will come up. They are TEN MONTHS late to the party and with the https://techcrunch.com/2020/01/30/avast-shuts-down-marketing-analytics-subsidiary-jumpshot-amid-controversy-over-selling-user-data/?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly9kdWNrZHVja2dvLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAIAH-NoWnnJsvlo6GbScHFpuragBU0gsS_Qeh2FOfAzgg-zSWljxSgwI8zKbFYwQ6t_5LyYqUiC-KyGn-xvIAoZjWHL0gEw5pMiEAiWjd1zvmJcocWTEDiiJeqmBq8BUOdgsUGzRlzmtN4ydglcN90S5xqZ73esOy2WYLxlPBNvA it's an even bigger challenge for them.
The other type of keyword tool relies on fresh data, the source for this data is either Google trends or Google auto complete queries. This is where we want to be if we want to rank as soon (or before) a topic explodes but these are the tools people hate to use for some reason. These are GOLD...
We have all probably used https://keywordshitter.com/, this is the type of tool we want to use for Timeroid SEO. This tool scrapes Google Auto Suggest data, auto suggest data is populated almost instantly by Google. Next time there is a major event such as a disaster or terror attack check google to see just how quick they are to pull these queries in. It's amazing.
https://keywordsheeter.com/ is a (semi) paid tool that does the same thing but in a way better way. There is so much more information than keyword shitter because it pulls in the top 100 Google results, it sometimes gives you search volume, keyword difficulty and more. It works from auto-suggest on the fly like keywordshitter, but also tries to give you the same data as the database tools which everyone uses now. You get full reports for like $5, there's no monthly subscription but most of the useful features are free. It's my go-to tool for keyword research.
This is the tool that allowed me to find these keywords before anyone else, however for search volume we have to get a bit creative. These tools do not give you search volume for new queries, that doesn't happen but we can use https://trends.google.com/.
Google Trends does not give you a number for search volume but we can make accurate guesstimates. We do this by searching for our new/unknown query and comparing it to a known query.
In this instance I compared "PS5 Preorder" to "VPN". VPN gets around 1 million monthly searches (33k a day), from this we can guess that PS5 Preorder peaked at around 25,000 searches in a day for the USA.
In truth volume doesn't matter much. You could easily add all your keyword variations into the trend data to find your primary keyword to focus on when putting the content together.
Another way to check if this is a suitable timeroid SEO keyword is to use google itself. A quick search checking title tags is a great way to see if other people have got there first (or how many got there first).
This is done like this:
This will show you Googles complete index for pages that have the target keyword in the title. Ideally nothing should show up, but if something does show up then you need to create a better page which moves us onto content.
Content Creation
We are going to be relying on our content more than we do when conducting normal SEO.
Bad content can be offset with links, but that's useless when links don't matter. Your content needs to be extremely good, your on page SEO needs to be good, your website needs to be fast and your site needs to be in Google search console to take advantage of page submission so it indexes first.
Content should be longer and more in depth than any competitor, if you have no competitor pretend you do.
Images should be clear, lay out should be clean, your page should load in less than 1 second. If you have a tech SEO problem or your website is trash then you're wasting time doing this. These problems need to be ironed out before the next coronavirus comes along... If you're creating new websites for timeroid SEO it's going to be too late.
As I mentioned the site I ranked was 2 years old, it had some DIY and home/garden content from black friday but it was ready, online, set up in search console and already had some traffic.
Link Building
There is no link building. Timeroid SEO does not require it because by the time you have built links days have passed and that's the opportunity gone... For long term success you may want to add links but don't make it a big priority it like we do with normal SEO.
I did build links to my coronavirus content, but this was not intentional. This is what happens when you're #1 for a big keyword naturally, people read it and link to it (because it was good content). I got around 30 links from prepper sites and a few forums, it probably helped long term but I don't think it actually impacted the timeroid technique.
Conclusion
Be ready for the next event. Timeroid is a killer SEO method that's underused and also very difficult to predict, using the proper SEO keyword tools and using our ears we can get ahead.
This was first introduced to us with 10beasts.com, but is echoed even more here in the movie Margin Call.
There are 3 ways to get ahead:
Being first is free, it just requires a bit of brains (number 2).
This technique could be used for many verticals from gaming, movie streaming, TV shows to new product launches. Do you have a PS5 headset page on your blog yet? Why not...
Hope this helps, I'd love feedback and also please share ideas on how to expand this.

- Amazon cut commissions so I'm no longer focusing on that
