Hi guys, How you all doing?

I have a spare few minutes in my now busy timetable to give you lovely bunch a quick tip. I wanted to talk about what I call 'work triggers'. Now, until a few months ago, I just was not getting any work done. I had about 20 sites that I had built over the course of 6 months that were, on average, ranking on page 3-4 without any/minimal backlinks but was just too lazy to fire up ultimate demon and get to work. I would basically sit at my desk and start looking at the existing link profiles and somehow end up on youtube looking at tips for black ops 2 :(

THIS HAD TO END (and it did)

Fast forward to now and most of my sites are now ranking first page (lost a few to penguin 2.0, damn google). What did I do different? its simple. I made a todo list and found something to do before I sat down to do some work.

For the todo list, I simply installed Evernote on my PC, laptop and phone. Every night before I went to sleep I would lay on my bed and sort out what needs to be done the next day on a checklist style note. The next day I would open up evernote on my second monitor and check everything as I went along.

Now, onto 'work triggers'. I read online somewhere that some of the most successful people in the world would routinely do something before they started work e.g. clean/arrange their desk or workspace or go for a small walk/jog. So I gave this a go by simple making a cup of coffee and readying a notepad and pen (for brainstorming) everyday before I sat at my desk.

Did it work? It sure did... :)

By doing the same thing everyday before work, it subconsciously tells your brain that it is 'time for work'.

So instead of sitting on your arse procrastinating, try going for a quick run, make a cup of coffee or even take a shower before you start work (and dont forget to let me know if it works for you)

    Ben

I think this is a great thread. Having a to-do list is one of the most important tips you can give, because most people who don't have one will just flounder. You have to make a plan and carry it out. Be your own search engine traffic and be highly targeted. If you went to your computer because you were looking for "internet marketing", you're probably not going to get any WORK done but if you get there thinking "create and upload a video to youtube", you're now highly targeted traffic and you're more likely to do the action and actually get paid. Make a to-do list for yourself and go for it.

Also, I'm going to give this a go for the week. My pre-work thing will be running since I'm supposed to do more of that anyways :)

i like to watch a quick porno clip, with a quick pull of mr chugalong. That way since the average male thinks of sex every 8 seconds, i'm hard wired to think of work every 8 seconds instead.

To be honest, that would actually work as clearing the pipes also helps clear your mind (and I guess you could also call that exercise lol)

I thought they created those softwares for people who were too lazy to build links manually :D lol

Good post, I find that certain places rather than certain actions get me in a "work mindset", for example in my sitting room at home, I often can't get to work, but at the office, or outside, or generally when there are other people around me, I find it easier to focus on my thing and avoid distractions.

I want to think that I'm in the "waiting for inspiration" stage, but if I apply some logic to my thought process, I realize I'm just lazy... BUT there's a difference between things you THINK you SHOULD do and things you WANT to do. Basically I have a bunch of junk projects that I have generated for myself while being high etc, really dragging out some crazy ideas thinking they could become big. Most of them are destined to fail or are just not worth the effort. I just ditched them and made a list of new ideas that I thought could work with an acceptable level of effort and now I'm happily working on them. It's all about finding the sweet spot for yourself.

Reading BHW, you see a lot of "methods", but in order for them to be successful you need to focus on SEO, duh (international market). I still don't know how to do it properly, but I have a rough idea after many hours spent reading. I've been stuck on reading and learning for too long and my productivity isn't on a level I'd like it to be. It comes down to applying your knowledge...

Anyway, find a pie, grab a slice, get the ball rolling. Feed on your own success... I remember how happy I was when I found my own "special sauce" (just for my local market) and how I built up my initial traffic, but as soon as I stopped focusing on improving existing solutions, my progress stagnated and my traffic started going down thanks to increase in competition. I'm not gonna let that slide, it's time to try to scale up :)

Just my 2c. I hope someone gets something out of this post.

    Good luck y'all!

I think you nailed right on the head in my opinion if you do IM is to wake up early.
It gives you a sense of urgency. Wake up early, get a cup of coffee and read on your porch or go workout.
Then you'll be ready to get to work.
Dive into your evernote or Any.Do is a also a nice productivity tool.
Set Stopwatch alerts on your computer or phone to somewhat give yourself a sense of timing for certain tasks.

I do IM and get motivated to do it cause I want to go a good college. My academics aren't the best but I hope showing I am serious about business/seo can let them know I work hard. Find a video of people you want to be like or people that have something you have and bookmark it. Whenever I think "wtf this is pointless" I just watch said video and try to refocus. Give yourself breaks and don't sit on your PC all day since it encourages laziness.

You need to make a schedule. One of the most important cause of failure in IM is sitting in front of computer for hours and doing thing.

Do different things everyday. If you are a full time IMer, dont stress yourself by telling you have to do this and that at a certain time and when to finish it. Make every task as fun to work with as possible. Like when I doing link building, I will turn on my favorite songs, when I am sending out letters to offline businesses, I will like my cat to lick on the back of the stamp(he seems enjoying it). And when I feel lazy, I will go for a jog or if feeling horny, go for a massage with a happy ending :)

I forgot to mention in the first post how important it is to take breaks. The worst thing that you can do is sit at your desk for hours on end. This not only causes backpain and such, but also decreases your productivity. What I like to do is, once I have completed a task or two in evernote, I take a little walk to clear my mind. Also, I am a father of a 1 year old, so what I do is take him for a walk down a certain route that hosts my dream house. I have been looking at moving house for a while now and I have seen the house that I want around the corner from where I live now. So taking a walk past it everyday makes me want to work harder to be able to afford it (bear in mind that it is not a mansion or anything, it only costs £200k to buy so I am not setting unrealistic goals)
