Hi Team!

Today i find a site in blogspot with a incredible alexa rank: 10k!

The site is this planetradio.com.ar
But, look alexa rank with this site, have 10k, but alexa rank show other site: ath.cx

How do that?

Matias,Be cautious how much emphasis and how much time you spend on Alexa ranking. There is a lot of debate as to the accuracy of its numbers. Alexa's own website states that it only gathers data from several million Internet users. With over 2.1 billion users world wide, this is not a representative sample. Check out this post from SEOMoz on the topic,http://www.seomoz.org/blog/testing-...exa-compete-google-trends-quantcastBest,Shawn

you can use traffic exchange.. I'm guessing 2k visitors a days for a week will get you 10k on alexa, hit leap provides traffic which is gathered by alexa so it affects directly! Used it for my site in 2 days 500 vis/day 700k

OP is not asking how to increase Alexa rank but wants to know why Alexa is showing data for another domain and how to do that.

Matias,

This is why it shows like that.

The owner of planetradio.com.ar initially hosted that site on a home PC and used the DynDns free DNS service to setup dns for his home server. (The domain is over 12 yrs old)

At that time the DynDns free service allowed to register yourdomain.ath.cx (.ath.cx is currently not available on DynDns due to .cx registry restriction).

The site owner then claimed ownership of that domain on Alexa when his site is still hosted on his home PC which is served by DynDns.

Alexa shows the statistics of different domain because that's what is used to verify & claim ownership. It's a bug with Blogspot & Alexa system and happens most of the time only for blogger blogs with custom domain.

If you too want to do something like that,

  1. Get a domain
  2. Setup your home server using wamp/xampp and get a free subdomain at http://free.domain.name/en.html
  3. Setup DNS records properly on your domain and claim ownership on Alexa
  4. Create a blogspot blog and setup custom domain
  5. Done! :)
