Thats more than $5/day, he needs $5. Just to cover his basic needs I guess.

There are many methods you could use to make $5 per day and much more. Which one(s) you should focus on depend on your skill set, amount of time available, amount you can invest...etc.
But for a quick answer I would say Fiverr, completing two gigs per day would net you $8/day. Browse through their categories and think about what services you could offer. There are many resources available here that will help you get stated making money on Fiverr quickly. I recommend doing a search and looking in the download section.

I hear you can make a little by buying $1 gigs from SEO Clerks and reselling on Fiverr. Haven't tried it but sounds quite possible.
Open a Bonanza account and sell digital downloads - this is dead easy but I think there is a limit for free accounts. You can see what others are selling and often get the same thing off Google - and copy the listing in its entirety.
You could drop ship nice looking silver plated jewellery from Chinese eBayers (on UK/USA sites) to eBay buyers. Once again, it can be copy and paste. You can add value just by being a UK/USA seller, with better listings, better descriptions etc - free and fast shipping if you ship them in and post them out yourself - snake chains cost around 30p each wholesale for 5 or 10 last time I looked.
If you happened to have a printer which does CDs/DVDs, then you could make some and sell on eBay. Lots of possibilities here.
