How hard is it to create a custom cloaker?

I have been using a few cloakers out there already for my campaigns, but currently looking to build my own custom cloaker. I'm a programmer, so not too worried about the technical implementation.

But also want to get a sense of what makes most of the cloakers out there reliable and full-proof, like NoIP, TrafficArmor, JustCloakIt, etc. They all seem to be doing their redirects on the frontend via Javascript.

Have any of you tried building a custom solution? What were your biggest challenges? I imagine the toughest part is just harvesting all the initial data (all the IPs and user-agents).

It's not too hard to build your own cloaker but it's hard to make an accurate cloaker.
You can create a tool but you can't buy data to make it accurate.

If you use such a cloaker, I think it's not worth it to make your own since there are
pro solutions available for cheap with everything you need.

Why waste time to make your own, when you can get it for cheap in market?

I hope it makes sense.

Very good point, that's exactly what my friends tell me too... though if you can find that same data somewhere while also monitoring on your own, may make sense and worthwhile.

Mate the ones you listed are expensive ones,
I can point you to an inexpensive solution.
If interested drop me a PM.

May be it is not worth the efforts once you see the cheap and best solution.

The actual cloaking part is easy. Even if you add various filtering rules. The time consuming part is building and maintaining the database of fingerprints and IPs. For that you need to automatically scan lots of traffic to find patterns, IPs, etc.

When cloakers like Fraudbuster offers everything unlimited for $200 per month

Opportunity cost is what really matters in long run.

Do you want to waste your time optimizing cloaker?

Or will you put your time in optimizing campaigns which will make you lot more dollars without much headache.

What if you went on a vacation and returned to just find your cloaker being outdated?

I'd just put my money on commercial cloaker and try to milk my campaigns, because that's why the money is.
