the best strategy is to create a site that would remain relevant even if google decides to change its ranking factors from one day to another. do not relly on a single keyword, traffic source, or SEO technique. in case of an update, pay attention to which pages nd keywords became less popular bcz it can show u googles new priorities.

Core and spam updates can affect rankings the most especially if a site has thin duplicate or low quality content I think the best way to stay safe is to focus on helpful original content good user experience and avoid aggressive link building or spammy tactics Theres no real trick to avoid updates building a solid site for is the safest approach.

Technically Google control all the ranking so if they update their algo, it means there must be any fruad scam or black hat seo happen, which they target to remove from SERP. So it will be like some good apple will also fall. They just have to keep doing white hat stuff and follow guidelines given by google
