As Google places is now dead....RIP. I thought I would share my experiences about the new boss in town....Google+Local with everyone and hopefully we can make sense of any new changes...good or bad

Just over a week ago I set up a place page that got merged with a google scraped dupe, after a lot of panicking a few days later the new listing popped up in place of the dupe only then to be affected by the google+ local change!

The new google+ local page I have is missing all my photos and videos. However the google map on the top right of the screen shows 5 of my pictures. So hopefuly I will see all my photos and videos come back in the next few days.

Okay folks looks like the videos are gone for the time being but may be back once google+ local merges with google+ properly coz at the moment its just a new name and interface change apparently.......do I believe Google errrr......NO!? Am sure there's something sinister afoot in the coming weeks and months for us offliners.lol

Am still waiting for photos to appear on my google+ local listing but I am sure they will appear soon enough.

how are you people adapting to this?!
Not too much has changed with my sites. Just continuing the same local seo work on sites.

If you have Google + pages and Google + local pages for the same site you have to keep working them separately. Google will eventually merge them two together so that you have have the social features.

One cool thing I noticed is that the google + local pages are now indexed unlike the google local listings... This opens some opportunities for backlinks maybe? food for thought i guess...

Just signed up a client for a google+ local page. You still go to the same url as google places and the whole sign up thing looks exactly the same. I even managed to put 5 youtube videos in his google+ local page. I know the videos won't show up on a live lisitng but google is going to bring the videos back when it merges with google+ but for now I think folks should still create some videos for their listing as it will provide a nice bit of juice regardless of whether anyone comes across the videos or not.

yeah nothing too big as far as changes go. You did lose the google places rich snippets but if you were ahead of the game and tagged your site with proper microformat tags your "stars" will still show up.
