How good directory submission is for backlinks

Is it as easy as simply search for directory site in your country, then submit to every single one of them. Some might ask for 10usd per month for listing...

(Nope...i gave up on dmoz...)

How good is their link juice though, and how can i found out...

(and yes, i know about PBN, but still...)

I have still had some success with directories. Its the same as any other link - you can check the metrics with tools like moz and so on. But of course keep in mind that with a directory you ahve very high outbound links so its not as effective as other links. Also, you want to be careful on quality of the directory and how many + what type of other sites it links out to.

I think the paid directories tend to be bit better as well purely because they are going to be slightly more exclusive and perhaps better quality of sites in their neighbouhood.

Keep in mind lastly that it should only be used as one of several different types of links that you build.

I don't think directories work for link juice any more. At most for domain authority and traffic.

Of course keep in mind that with a directory! you want to be careful on quality of the directory and how many + what type of other sites it links out to.

You have to be careful which directory you're using. Some (you have to check their outbound links) are useful for
Link Diversity & increasing your number of Referral Domains.

What you need to look for are NICHE directories that can dedicate a specific page with a ******** link to your site.
I can't stress enough about the "niche" thing : you have to maintain relevance to reap some benefits.

But overall, you can and should include directory links in your link profile, and it's more important if you use PBN's
(use directory links to point BRANDED and URL anchors and PBN links for Optimized Anchors).

So there you go: directories are not bad but you just have to find niche-specific directories that are not spammed.

I purchased some listings with some reputable directories targeting a specific keyword. Didn't budge nor did any traffic from that directory link. Waste of time IMO.

Only the high end directories matter much. You'll probably have to pay one way or the other to get on them though. Either through forward fee's or bribing editors. $200+/listing isn't unheard of, especially in Dmoz.

In the end it just depends on how valuable your site is to you. And if money is better spend elsewhere. Directories are fairly 'white hat' though and are pretty permanent.
