usually at Christmas i get 1/2 large chickens and a large turkey crown and it would cost 30-35 quid.
now with the bottled CO2 shortage food companies are running low on CO2 to keep food cold, UK might
run out in a week or 2. Turkeys are selling out all over the UK. it pained me to pay 85GBP for a turkey because
only the wife eats it. i eat chicken. 85GBP for a fcking turkey

across the UK because with C02 shortage, keeping things cold is now an issue

Agreed on the Turkey, chicken is far superior.

For the last 2 years, we've been getting a few dry-aged steaks, a pork shoulder, and a brined chicken for Christmas. All done on the BBQ (low and slow pork smoked overnight).
Smash a few beers, kids play in the pool... far less hassle than what we used to do having an 'official' roast.

In India, 4-5 kgs chicken costs you around $10-15, and the seller will kill the chicken in front of you

I don't know about the pros & cons in business perspective, but Indians don't like stored food. Most of the population likes to buy fresh food.

im stocking up my 2 big freezers this week. hopefully that should
tide me 3 months........gonna hurt my wallet, but tv news is reporting
shelves for meat could be empty by Christmas. im buying now
b4 prices climb to much

In Western countries the meat is packed with hormones and god knows what else anyway.
I eat solely game meats.

@Starblazer 4 - 5k chickens are still cheap here in the uk 4 - 5GBP each
its the turkeys that are sky rocketing due to cold storage issues

You won't die or your Xmas won't be ruined just because you have something else!

I have been living in UK for 10years, It always boggles my mind when Xmas comes and how stupid people become with all the Xmas planning..,
You will spend 3-4 months previously thinking talking preparing for just that 1 day. Then 1 day after that, it's all in the trash...

btw, remember the time when People were paying £10/kg for Rice when the First Covid wave hit and everyone was panic buying?

That's why food prices are crazy. Dairy farmers still subsidized massively. House price are 2x. Gas is insane. Wages are low. Inflation is 4.1%. Healthcare is some of the worst in the world. Locked down massively.

I have never been to Canada but considered a few years ago to move there for some time.

I thought wages are Very good there as well?
I have looked at some Canadian shop leaflets and the food prices looked just fine as well?
Had a look at used car prices, even they were ok..

Free healthcare when compared to USA also is great..

Yes, Housing was fairly expensive but if you get a mortgage does it even matter?

Overall..Canada seems like a better place to be than USA apart from the colder weather?
I suspect Canadians aren't as gun crazy as well?
