If an expired domain had some solid backlinks and decent SEO behind it, it can still pull in organic traffic even after it’s expired.

but they are generating traffic very fast. what kind of strategy they are using. do they have userbase, google is indexing these sites very quickly

I think that's not enough to generate this kind of traffic. there is something else.
 
I have worked with clients who preferred 301 redirecting expired domains to their main sites, but the results were disappointing, hardly any benefit. Google dropped expired domains, and most link juice is lost, making redirects nearly useless. The best approach would be to rebuild all old pages with backlinks, restoring the site’s structure before integrating it into your main domain. This way, you have a better chance of retaining link equity.
 
They are still getting the residual traffic from their backlinks usually. In some cases you will also find a domain hasn't yet been fully deindexed and receiving traffic from search engines.

Expired domains can be amazing for this.
 
Expired domains get traffic because they still have old backlinks and indexed pages that keep sending visitors even after the previous site disappears.
 
The domain’s previous owner had built many backlinks.
Even after the domain expires, those backlinks remain on the internet for a long time so they continue sending traffic to the domain.
 
Probably ranking for old backlinks and cached pages from when the domain was active. A lot of expired domains get random spikes just from inherited SEO juice or bots hitting old URLs.
