How effective is hand writing addresses VS using labels?

Handwriting the addresses on hundreds of letters is so time consuming but at the same time gives a more personal feel to the envelope. Labels are much quicker but make the people think it is bulk mail and they are less likely to open.

What wins if I have to send out 600 envelopes?

Different rates of success depending on the industry.

Also depends on if the intended recipient or their assistant answers the mail.

Split test and find out but I think its worth the effort.
 
For many, many years I did offline marketing, selling life insurance, one of the things most people fail at.... and did a heck of a lot of marketing using mail, and always found a better response if you write the name and address on the envelope, rather than stickers. Take for yourself, if you received two envelopes, one with a hand written address and the other a sticker... let's say both without a return address and neither one a window envelope... which one would you probably open first?

I'd open both, but never ever would I do business with the one handwriting the letters.
My testings have shown the pretty much same results. Same with inprinted/prestamped vs handstamped.
It's just a lack of professionalism over here. From what I read it seems to be different over in the USA though.

Overall there is alot of aspects you'd have to take into consideration. You'll have the best, fastest and most accurate results doing testings on your own.

You're not putting a personal touch on 600 envelopes, handwritten or no.

Make your letters professional, and people will open them.
 
you could always try a handwritten font, they often give good results, with a midway point between informal and formal.
