How effective are shoutouts?

This was a big question that was on my mind since I've joined the community.

I wanted to hear from most of you who have used shoutouts to grow and spread your accounts exposure:

How effective are they?

How much did you pay?

How many followers (engagement) did that user have?

How did exchange work? (ex. did you give the money first, then your service was recieved, via paypal/kik/somehwere else?? etc.)

hopefully maybe we can have enough information to average it all into some kind of basic statistic for instagram to help future users who may be planning on buying shoutouts. Or used to help users who are debating on spending their money via other methods to grow their accounts. Thanks guyssss :)

Mmm you have to be careful because there are loads of people out there with instagram accounts whose followers arent real. If you are looking to create a presence on instagram, there are loads of useful articles here that you can search. If you do everything correctly you will have great success.
 
Not sure about a percentage. Think it depends on how good your blog is

That being said, Niche targeted shout outs definitely increase engagement. If you're a fitness blog getting a shout out from a big fitness blog you're going to get more views than if you're getting your shout out from a taco blog

My IG accounts (4 of them) operate in the food/cooking space; I get DMs from some kitchen/lifestyle account with 90k followers - they claim I'll get 200- 300 followers per shoutout BUT... when I ask if there's some guarantee on that... no response. Interested to hear from anyone with firsthand experience from a shoutout with similar follow count? thanks
 
I think shoutouts are a great way to grow AS LONG AS the person has a high number of engaged followers, which would typically cost ~$1000

They're not effective as used to be, but still works depending on engagement on stories
$5 for a 15k+ page with moderate engagement
 
I manage an IG account for a cabinet company in Nashville TN; some "lifestyle influencer" (117k followers) just reached out to propose bartering - they need kitchen cabinets. I'm interested, but of course there's no guarantee any of their followers will turn into cabinet customers? Other variables include: Producing the right marketing content for their target demographic; the location of their followers (need to be in the Nashville area), etc.

Sounds about right - and of course lots of variables e.g. not a wise idea to sell steaks on a vegetarian site etc. I could imagine solid marketing content is a key to success, and crappy content rarely works anywhere

Yep. If you can find a bunch of accounts that convert best in terms of audience(niche related), it's a long way to go. I've seen viewers convert from pages as small as 10k. Their interest is the key
 
You had to analyze the accounts you want to get the shoutout from. At the first glance, it might look like those shoutouts are damn cheap, but when you start analyzing the account itself (engagement rate, fake followers, etc..) then you can filter out shitty accounts with shitty/fake engagement rate. You should get shoutouts from accounts that have real engagement and real followers. Usually those accounts with +50k followers who are offering shoutouts for 10$ and such won't give you any results. Probably the best bet would be contacting influencer accounts in your niche.

Good advice, I actually spent a little time looking at posts & comments from one "influencer": seems like it wouldn't be easy to fabricate all that, and I did some random checking of their followers - not sure how many were fake but there were a great deal of "private accounts" if that means anything.

I think you can check the authenticity of the account on hypeauditor

Obviously bots would be a useless ripoff for anyone paying for shoutouts & hoping to generate new followers/business... but again: even with real followers, there's no guarantee anyone will buy what you're selling - advertising is always a gamble right?
