How effective are FB Ads?

I paid out 3.00 a day. Is this even worth the effort?

The effectiveness of PPC ads (be it facebook or some other platform) depends mainly on a) how well do you utilise the targeting options (FB offers loads of possibilities to laser-target your audience) b) how good is your ad copy.

It's true that FB ads tend to have a very low CTR and it's understandable as most people aren't on FB to find information (and therefore keen to click on ads) but to communicate with others etc. - however this is irrelevant as you're paying per click, not per view.
