A short intro.

I have been producing content on YouTube for over 10 years. I am not a real Youtuber as I prefer to remain anonymous and only produce content on different niches. Until 2016 I was also involved in YouTube views services, of course sending fake views for my videos and other channels to rank them. Things have changed a lot since 2016 and the YouTube Algorithm is now very difficult to manipulate.

I have done several tests most without any success to find how YouTube operates and ranks a video. I want to share my knowledge with you and maybe if someone else has other input, we might find a solution to influence the algorithm. Of course, this is only for videos with decent content. This won't work for spam videos, affiliate stuff etc.

I was always curious what was the reason behind older videos that were barely getting any traffic being recommended all of a sudden and receiving huge amounts of traffic until it happened to one of my videos.

I will post below the analytics info so you can draw the conclusions yourself.

So this video about a sports celebrity had a few hundred K views and it was posted around 2 years ago. In the last months, it was receiving around 200-300 views per day on average until something happened at the end of October. It suddenly received 500 to 1000 views per day and then a few thousand per day and now 75K views in the last 48 hours. What happened is the question?

93% of the traffic comes from Browse Features, 5% from YouTube Search and only 1% Suggested Videos. Browse Features is comprised from people who have seen one of your videos but aren’t subscribed just yet and people who like similar content to yours. This can be good in the long term because this audience has a better connection with you.

Suggested Videos is more about EVERYONE who could like your video even if they haven’t seen anything from you. This is better in the short term because it can get your video viral but everything that goes up does eventually come down. It helps you grow quick with less of a connection to those people compared to the traffic form “Browsing”. Suggested Videos are also a personalized collection of videos that an individual viewer may be interested in watching next, based on prior activity.

My guess is that a relevant percentage(relevant for the algorithm) of users have searched keywords similar to the ones used in my video. Basically, there was some interest for that specific or a similar topic all of a sudden, which based on YT search engine searches forced the YT Algorithm to recommend my video. At this point, the video acts just like a new video upload and if it received the required engagement rate it gets pushed even further by the YT Algorithm.

If you have other information please correct me. Now, my question is how can we manipulate or influence this? For older videos and for new uploads?

Here is how I think the YouTube Algorithm works for new uploads:

Fake views are dead. High retention fake views won't help your videos, it's not about the amount of views, the system is much more complicated than this.

The crucial elements for ranking a video nowadays are engagement rate and watch time. In order for your new video upload to be pushed further, you need to get a good watch time, likes, comments, shares, and subscriptions especially in the first 2 hours from the upload.

To be able to influence the algorithm we need a panel/server with decent quality YT accounts at least a few hundred. When a new video gets uploaded on the target channel, these YT accounts search on YouTube the keywords used for the video, click on the video, engage by liking, leaving a few comments and few subscriptions. If the required engagement rate is acquired the video will be pushed into the next pool where it will be suggested to a larger audience(thousands of users). Of course, this 2nd level is harder or maybe impossible to manipulate if the video is not good enough. But I think a few thousands of views are still a good result in ranking a video.

I would also try this with the YT accounts being already subscribed to the channel and engaging at a high rate to have the video suggested to even more subscribers. This in my opinion how the YT Algorithm works.

For even more information I recommend you to read this article or this paper on Deep Neural Networks for YouTube Recommendations released by google.

If you guys have other info or if someone knows about a YT panel with quality accounts that can engage like normal users in the way I described above, let me know. Hope this info will help you. Cheers!

Interesting post. Well, maybe try to do yourself those few hundred views with 4g proxies? If you have the budget, get 10-20 4g proxies and run 100 accounts/ each proxy. It's a lot of work, but that could work.

as you can see only a 75 of your subscribers watched your video. so this boils down to two things on why that video blew up or had the opportunity to; you had a decent ctr and you gained a good amount of watchtime hours. you said you were getting a good 200-300 views per day; you were generating watch hours which then triggered the algorithm to push it even more. youtube wants people to stay on ther platform. if your videos are racking up hours, then there is a chance of getting pushed. simple as that

Any tips on how to manipulate the algorithm for smaller channels? 500-1k subs?

use your phone, i have a phone method posted here. also another tip i have is to either buy views that have alot of watchtime to generate watchime on your videos. and to rank for low comp keywords.

youtube updates sometimes affect old videos
