how does xvideos run so smoothly

I was checking out a few video sites for educational purposes only and I noticed out of all the sites, xvideos runs the smoothest.
The videos load fast, even on a crappy computer. There is no lags, the picture doesn't suddenly break up. and i love the hover feature, you can hover over a video and it will show you a preview.

how does it run so smooth? what is the secret behind this technology? whatever it is, I think it's superior to youtube, for sure.

I think the fact that it's simple and clean helps alot. It doesn't seem to have the added extras you find on other sites as well.
 
Clean design + compressed videos + good script + high-powered server = speed.
 
Because it's greasy.

But seriously, decent caching can do wonders.

In the name of science, I have also conducted a speed experiment and they all seem to load the same for me out of the three I tried. Xvideos is definitely one of the bigger sites so they're probably getting preferential bandwidth rates on major CDNs that's perhaps cheaper than the standard rate at a less established CDN.

I'm mostly sure when it comes to video sites, it's all about the CDN. You'll run out of uplink bandwidth way before you hit the processing resources of any high-powered server.
 
The technology is there to make videos run smoother and it's much simpler than what youtube is doing, youtube optimizes video streaming and intentionally lowers bandwidth usage to minimize their delivery cost; they auto-reduce video quality, partially stream videos and load comments on demand. Since they have a monopoly over video streaming they can push these optimization hacks as "features" and get away with it. It's not that xvideos has access to some secret technology; in fact youtube originally was much smoother. It's just that xvideos at its current position still has some serious competitors and needs to maintain that edge. To summarize; it's a business decision not a technical one.

I've seen A LOT of avatars on forums before but never in my life have I seen a mop quite like that. The things got f##king eye balls, a mouth, a crinkle on it's forehead, hair and a chin...... I still can't stop laughing..... :D
