Hi all,

I am struggling to understand a little bit how these types of websites (heywise, quizlagoon, girlspring) make money.

Analyzing the websites a little bit and you understand that their main monetization is Adsense banners everywhere, very aggressive (sometimes even to the level of not being able to use the webpage like heywise). Their main source of traffic is paid Ads (semrush and similarweb stats).

My question then is, how low can you get your "Cost per Click" to be profitable? Am I missing something?

Regards,

Your conclusion is correct, Quiz websites are known to generate a lot impressions with lucky clicks, High CTR
But to focus on Adsense only isn't a good idea, you will get limited fast

For example Heywise, check their ads.txt file, "https://heywise.com/ads.txt"

They're probably not using adsense since adsense has been proven to not be very profitable. I guess they either manage their ads themselves using Google ad exchange and/or other similar offerings. They could also be using platforms like mediavine and adthrive. For sites with huge traffic, when the ads are well managed and the right prices set, they usually profitable.

Since, the site you mentioned has all it's traffic coming from paid ads, they're essentially doing ads arbitrage which is profitable when you have the right team.

An easy way to know what ad network a website is using or if they use adsense only is by viewing the ads.txt file of the site. Go to sitedoamin.com/ads.txt, a page containing a list of all networks and their user/publisher ID on the network would be displayed. If they're using a managed platforms you'd likely see it mention with a #before the name, beneath the platform name would be a list of the adnetworks the platform pulls adverts from.

Ahh, nice, didn't know about the ads.txt file. Thank you both for the term "Ads arbitrage", I will read about it now...

I just explored the ads.txt file that you have mentioned above. I just wanted to explore the sites like vorname.com crosswordtracker.com and https://sensitivityconverter.net/ your discussion helped me out studying these sites how they are generating revenue through ads.
