How does this Website KNOW!?! I voted.

Okay just to clear up what someone else said, a website can NOT see your MAC address, ever. Unless someone is on your actual home network, it's invisible to the outside world.

Let's suppose you've done everything correctly, flash cookies, history, all browser content and changed your IP address then to 99.99% of sites, you're a different user. Now there are methods of fingerprinting a computer that don't involve the above, the only website I've seen thus far check other the other things that I'm about to mention is Facebook when it logs the device your using and your location in its security settings.

So your user agent/browser header is the most obvious way of tracking you. Your user agent is not unique like your IP addresses (1 in every 294539 people have my user agent) but when used in conjunction with things like, system fonts, time-zone, browser resolution and installed plugins (all of which are publicly visible to websites that you visit) you soon get a unique fingerprint. All of these things together make it around a 1 in several million people chance that it's you. So that's how it can be done.

To see what I mean in action, Google panopticlick and test your system. This can be beaten but it depends on how much time you have and how much you can be bothered.

Look up browser finger printing. Short version website looks at all your plugins etc and the combination of all the information about you can be used to very nearly almost uniquely identify you.

It keeps your cookie or it sets a session with your info,

session can be set as a page use only or very powerful session with a database.

they can use your

cookie
ip
session
hijack browser program
mac address
sniffing

there million ways into today world.

even proxy ip address that are sold, are showing you o regional ip footprint seen under the hidden proxy know (yes this does exist before you all go mad..) .......

Go Airplane Mode on a mobile then turn off Airplane Mode after about 1 minute and BAM you will have a COMPLETELY new IP.

I dunno how they would know any other way I don't think you're allowed to track MAC addresses. If it's MAC log in on another device.

I would say its MAC address. Im having this exact issue with a big website.

Some of the comments here are batshit crazy lol.

They cant know if you are the same person just because you have the same screen size and Windows 10, for example. Millions of people do.

I have tried all the obvious things too. Cookies, IP, etc etc.

Yes, I definitely see how you reached that conclusion, what with you ignoring the fact that seeing a MAC address is impossible outside of a local network as many people have clearly said above (plus you can Google it yourself) and then distrusting the factual information that computers/browser combinations are fingerprinted (which you can also Google for yourself). Very logical indeed.
