Anyone use both platforms? What are your impressions on Skrill compared to Paypal?

I've heard horror stories about Paypal holding funds. How about Skrill?

How do their fees stack up?

I absolutely hate Paypal. Skrill is good as a payment processor. Fees are reasonable. There are 2 problems I have faced with Skrill compared to Paypal:
  • They are not as widely accepted as Paypal.
  • Skrill has a tendency to automatically convert your personal account to business account if they can catch a business transaction. Then you will have to pay more fees. Just make sure not to write anything about a deal in the comment section when you send or receive money.
I guess anything is better compared to the robbery and stupidity of Paypal. Skrill is one of the good ones. They offer a physical plastic card too.

Skrill is way better than paypal.

Paypal are just proud and silly bigots

in my experience stay away from paypal you will just loose your money and waste time on them, they hold funds with no reason and they are completely ridiculous with their 180 days funds holding.
skrill on the other hand is way more user friendly i've been with them for 3 years now and not a single problem but their fees are high if you have a business account.

Skrill has been working fine for me all times! However, they copy PayPal a lot in the way they transfer money! For instant it sucks that they do wire transfer in your local currency rather then EUR or USD if that is what you want. In the past it was no problem but now you can't even change it. Other then that I still use them from time to time!

I have both PP and Skrill personal accounts and what annoys me is that Skrill has only one currency available. In paypal you can have both Eur and USD balance and use them as you need during checkout.

Skrill is better because of lower hold/locking rate but they are not used anywhere but by the bookies and gambling websites.
There is nothing like Paypal, but PP is a bitch as you may know.

i prefer skrill but its hard to find a buyer who pay with skrill or a seller who sell for skrill

It's like comparing Yahoo to Google, where Skrill is Yahoo, Google is PayPal. Both are search engines, but no-one really uses Yahoo to search. I think Skrill (formerly Moneybookers) is somewhat more widely used in the UK and in India. And i also think that it's fairly popular among internet marketers, but if you take a look at the general population, they'll have only PayPal mostly.
Unless your target audience is a country, which has its own, dominant payment processor(s) (like Russia), as a merchant you cannot afford the luxury to not accept PayPal payments. If you want to avoid using a PayPal account when accepting payments, you should look into payment processors, which can accept PayPal payments e.g. 2Checkout, otherwise you'll leave a good chunk of money on the table.

GayPal sucks, Skrill is just a better alternative and I think more sellers on BHW need to use it :)

These two gentlemen are speaking the hard truth. PP is a bitch but you cant do business without it. With BHW and Stealth PP accounts, this shouldn't be a big problem for you.

@RuthSam , are you the owner of the company in your sig? I saw them elsewhere and the forum admin promotes it. So I am curious.

Main diffrence is that skrill is run under a banking license where paypal has only a financial institution license in europe and nothing more.Skrill's owner Bongartz is german and coming from the adult scene so he exectly knows what webmasters need

In general Skrill has a customer support system which is more friendly than PayPal.

They reply mails on time and treat Issues promptly.

PayPal poses so much trouble to their customers especially people from specific countries.

Both Payment Processors have their downsides and merits.
