How does one work under such conditions?

I meant.. the UPS can keep your hardware and modems on fine.. but if the Internet connection is LAN (cable), then the UPS can't control other routers near your house your cable comes through - if they power down.

I would be pretty upset (and scared) that my goverment has nuclear power and I had no power in my house.

I am surprised you have connection, although not too fast.

In anycase, for a pc and a router/modem all you need is a solar power with a voltage regulator and a car battery with an inverter. Then it would cost you close to nothing and you would have no worries.

Anyway, thetraveller nailed it, the more time you spend offline, the less distractions you will have to do some real good work, if it looks bad, turn it around and find something good!

I use those wireless ones..Wimax I guess.No Lan cables or stuff so it should be fine!

Find ho voltage line. i heard there are non commercial transformers to down from 40k to 220v.

for internet buy satellite connection you may get 512 KBps.

OK, what about solar power? An UPS will slowly lose its power even without consumption, due to its invertor (12v to 220v). And you can get barely 1-2 hours of power for a laptop with a medium UPS.

I do not live in Pakistan, but: I live in the countryside, in the middle of nowhere. I have no electricity when there is wind, rain, snow, sometimes too much sun, and god surely knows while there's no reason. This happens .... say ..... 5 months a year (not daily, but it may last 3 weeks)
I chose this life and the solutions are: internet satellite, VPS, wind turbine and solar generators.
When my best friend came to my wedding he told me: "My god, I thought I came to Pakistan" ...... maybe a sign!

Can't you get a small diesel generator?

OP your situation is pretty tough and I feel for you. Makes people like most of us here appreciate what we have 24/7 and decent working conditions.

Many members here suggested some really good options. Please definitely consider all those options because something will work out in the end.

All I'd like to add is that you always "have an option" - always. No matter how bad it gets, you always have an option to decide. When you face tough situations, start asking yourself some really smart questions and that way you will definitely come up with solutions in your mind. When you have possible solutions to your problem, keep trying and seeing what will work.

On the way up the ladder you will meet many failures along the way, be prepared to accept failures when they happen because it's not possible to succeed without failing somewhere. Read up the story on Soichiro Honda or Michael Jordan, it'll really open you eyes on some peoples courage and fortitude in the toughest times.

Although your problems are not related to failure, it's definitely in big hindrance for you. You must solve all those problems 1 by 1 and continue to proceed.

buy a laptop ( you can start with a netbook if you don't have much $$ ) + dongle so you don't require electricity to operate
then get an inverter/ generator to help you with a fan...
