I'm just wondering what the benefit is for an advertiser that is promoting a hidden/dark post with FB ads?

I mean I'm paying like $0.20 per click but I'm getting charged for LIKES .... how the fuck does getting a "like" help me?

I know when someone shares a post on their wall that might bring in free traffic from his friends .... does the same thing happen when they "like" a post or am I missing something?

As far as I know a share is visible to more friends of your feed and a like only to friends who you are according to facebook connected with (liking and viewing their posts, chatting with them, being tagged a lot in their photos, often checking their profile - you name it and facebook tracks it) so a like isn't bad but not as "power full" as a share. Sometimes Facebook shows months later a post a friend liked "XYZ liked a post on Date". In my opinion getting shares and comments is way more valuable than a like. That are only my observation so far.

But when someone clicks "Like" on my ad, does that show up on their news feed so as to bring me more traffic from their friends or not.

Because if it does not all it really does is tell FB that the person has an interest in that subject.... but it does not benefit the advertise in any way (I mean besides social proof).

Yes, it does. you can see on your feeds , sometimes , "jonny" likes "sports page".

It's very simple.
You get a like is equal to you get a subscriber.
Next time whatever you post in your page, it will be shown in his/her news feed
which then will convert to traffic.
Think for long term benefits.

I am talking a liking a dark/hidden ad post... not liking the actual fan page.

I checked a little bit and this seems to be the case in terms of ad posts - I can not say if likes of ad posts are never shown to friends news feeds but I it appears they seem to be shown only to a hand full people Facebook things you are connected with or nobody. I only checked with two accounts so I can't make an exact statement. But I checked some posts of mine I boosted and only likes didn't had no or very less impact on organic reach - comments and shares had way more and increased the organic reach for some extra traffic.
