how does i3-4360 compare to ryzen 3 1200?

Hi,

I'm looking to build a new computer on a budget and for the CPU I've decided on a ryzen 3 1200 and I'd like to know how it compares to my current CPU (which is an i3-4360), but I'm not tech-savvy so I didn't understand shit of the metrics and stats that are mentioned on comparison sites.

Can someone give it to me in the terms of a 5 year old illiterate dude how the 2 compare to each other? Actually, I only want to know how much better / worse the ryzen CPU is vs the i3 CPU when it comes to...

1) having multiple tabs opened simultaneously in the browser (I'm thinking about 30-35 tabs)
2) playing video games while having youtube running
3) having multiple videos opened up at the same time (I'm talking about local videos, not youtube or other videos playing over the internet, and I'm thinking about having 10-12 videos opened up at the same time)
4) having multiple txt files opened at the same time (about 10-15 txt files opened up at the same time)
5) having multiple programs running in the background (5-6 various things running in the background ON TOP of the usual AV, Nvidia panel, etc.)

These 5 points are enough. Normally, the Ryzen CPU should be better since it's 3 years newer, but it's also about 20% cheaper which is one of the confusing parts for me.

So, if anyone is capable of understanding the gibberish that tech people love to post on their websites please read that gibberish and then come back here and explain to me in toddler-level words which CPU is better for each one of the 5 points and by how much so that I know whether to buy the Ryen CPU, or keep my current one.

Not much of an upgrade. They are both low end CPUs. AMD is a bit newer, but the performance is almost the same. Go with Ryzen 5 if you want decent CPU

buying pc components today is bit expensive,but i would always go with new pc components that can be upgraded in the future...for me there is no point spending money on old pc parts you dont have warranty on that parts...

I know that Ryzen 5 is the bee's knees, I wanted to buy it last year when I had money, but that money is long gone and now I have to compromise. I'm looking at the prices and the Ryzen 5 is 6x the price of the Ryzen 3, which is out of reach for me at the moment because for a Ryzen 5 I will also have to buy the right motherboard, the right RAM, the right GPU and so on which, in the end will cost me at least 2-3x more than I can afford to pay.

That's why I had hoped to get a better bang for the buck with the Ryzen 3, although I kind of expected it to be crap

I agree with the 2nd part (the warranty one), but buying anything new nowadays is scarily expensive. I'm looking at GPUs that I used to pay $150-160 for and they're now at least $270, which is more than I can afford currently.

But I'm not interested in buying upgradeable parts anymore. I used to care a lot about this 15-20 years ago when I based my purchases on this very principle but noticed that I've not even once upgraded anything lol. So, in the last 5-6 years I've decided to go with non-upgradeable components only and replace them every 5 years (most components only come with 2-3 year warranties anyway, so why would I buy upgradeable components anymore then?)

Anyway, any idea about what I asked? Namely, how do the 2 CPUs compare to each other?

They are pretty much the same. With processors, newer does not always mean better and faster.

The intel one is quite powerful and should work well for your needs.

1) Bad habit to have so many tabs open, but open tabs are not very resource intensive if they are not executing JS in the background, so you should be fine.
2) Should work fine
3) Yeap, will surely work fine, most video players are lightweight (VLC, MPC-HC)
4) Txt files are not cpu intensive, you can have 200+ and your only limitation will be RAM, not CPU.
5) Can still easily do it.

Yeap, keep your intel, use that money on something else.

You will also need a new motherboard and RAM for the Ryzen 3. You cannot just swap your i3 for Ryzen.

no problem,i always go with intel/nvidia combo thats my personal preference.

But I want to make the move to Linux, which is why I'm looking at Ryzen. I've built my current PC around Intel and I've been having a lot of problems running Linux on it since 2014 when I've bought it, and even though it still runs well I really, really, REALLY want to get into Linux after toying with Mint and Ubuntu for a few months when I - inexplicably - managed to run those 2 distros on this PC (with bugs and crashes, but at least I've managed to run them, just don't ask me how cause I haven't gotten a clue, all I remember is that I've wasted a lot of nights and had a lot of headaches and did a lot of formatting and fiddling with the UEFI to make it work

im using vmware workstation for running kali linux on my windows ...linux is good for low pc budgets because its fast

linux is good for a lot of things, and it's more customizable than windows anyway....

And I know about vmware (I've used Virtual Box on Linux to run Windows several years ago when I managed to make Mint work, so I know about such things, but I think that you need to have a CPU... or was it motherboard? that can work with both OS, otherwise I don't think you can run different OS if your CPU / MoBo doesn't support one of them)

I know the site, I checked it earlier but I didn't know how to interpret those stats. For me, technology = alien stuff, I need to have tech explained to me like you're talking to a toddler or else I'll stare at you like you're a martian
