How does he get those links?

I have a question, a rather unusual one. I'm Polish and a gaming website was established in our market a year ago.
It has gained amazing results in a short period of time, currently has several hundred thousand visitors per month and earns crores.

I know the owner, hence I also know his results. On the other hand, what puzzles me is how he gets so many links from the top of the industry. I ask this question here because most of his links come from global sites. He gets links from huge gaming portals that have millions of hits. ******** links of course. The question is how does he do it? Because I know that he does not spend a single penny on them. Maybe someone will be able to analyze this and, for his own knowledge and that of the forum users, share it with us.

From looking at it for less than five minutes, it looks like legit backlinks citing his articles. Are you sure this is manipulation versus producing genuinely valuable content fast enough to be a reputable source to cite?

He gets those links by researching online or through other sources such as word of mouth.
