How does Google treat image backlinks?

Does anyone know how Google treats image backlinks?

As in <a href="YourWebsite.com"><img src="MyNakedHolidayPictures.jpg" alt="keyword"></a>

Do they hold the same weight as normal text backlinks? I can't find much about it online.

Image backlinks are useless. That's my personal opinion.
 
Useless or not but I still try to create these to make the profile as natural as possible.
 
test it to know what Google means for image links. It could be a credit for using the image in Google eyes.

ha yeh I hadn't thought of tagging people. Who else knows their sh*t? @splishsplash you know SEO just as good as anyone from looking at your threads

I think a case study or someone experience should be the only answer that matters
 
Images like infographics and Graph are worth equal to 2000 words article. We have embed option to generate worthy link which can pass link juice to main site.
 
I think it depends on the location of the link, if its actually within the content it can hold good value.

In my opinion, the weightage of the backlink depends on the quality and reliability, and is not based on the text or image.
 
Normal text is better than image backlinks. but link juice can be obtained as same as both. if the image has some important graph and infographic, will have effect than normal stock value image.
 
Search engine cannot read images. So they use alt text or text around image for image search results. Link value is same as text link and depends on factors like page retention, page rank, do/nofollow, ctr etc.
 
So say I have a PBN that I have built for the purpose of boosting the SEO of a particular client of mine.

Naturally, I would want to have a contextual text-based backlink on the homepages of each of my PBN sites. In this context, would having an additional image-based backlink on one or more of these homepages provide a substantial boost in link juice? What about the suspicion level of this approach with respect to manual reviewers?

One more bit... @janish suggests in his AMA that linking to the money site from more than one page on a PBN site is risky business. Would the same suggestion go for image-based backlinks on PBN subpages? My apologies if this is a poorly directed question, I am just a curious newbie that is really into this stuff.

Say my client runs a business that sells electronics. I could then have an article (unique content ofc) on a subpage about the features of a particular electronic device. This is where I envision sliding in an inline image-based backlink. Have people tried this kind of thing before? I would love to hear people's thoughts on this.
 
I can't comment on whether they're better or not. But a link is a link and it's definitely worth having a variety.

about 5 years ago, I got positive serp results from doing image backlinks using single variable testing. that was 5 years ago. if I had to guess, I say it still helps.

it is getting more and more difficult to do single variable testing these days ... which is what google wanted to happen

Google can read image since a while ago . If you have a image of the eiffel tower it will recognize it. Google is able to read with images as well, it is described in few patents from Google

May be. But they mostly rely on text. Ex Youtube.
