How does Google track incoming traffic for SEO?

The title doesn't quite describe my title, but let's say I have a site that has no "meat", articles, or really content that Google sees as worthwhile. But I make two parts of my large website, one with lots of articles and good content, and one with just photos and stuff where I send lots of traffic, and that can be monetized better.

Increased web traffic plays into your rankings, but does Google keep track of what pages on your site are getting all of the traffic?

Yes of course. Google tracks everything from what pages your traffic is going to, how long they stay on your site, how many pages they view on your site and the source of your traffic. Everything about your traffic is accounted for and Google uses that information to outline how important & unimportant certain pages are on your site.

So if I send all my traffic to Page B, my rank for Page A assuming no traffic from Page B reaches Page A) won't be affected at all?
 
It's difficult to tell though I don't "think" it would effect it. It would more than likely only effect the page that your traffic is being direct to though the best way to tell would be to test it. Create a test site and test this to see if there are any noticeable changes.

It's correct if you use Google Analytics on you site. If not, they can only see the traffic to landing pages coming from search results, but they can't see what your visitor does on your site.
 
Well a little more insight to my problem is I can drive tons of traffic to image galleries "Tope Ten Sports Teams" (mobile traffic), and they'll click through that, generate tons of pageviews, but I am trying to use that traffic to help rank an authoritative part of my site, because image galleries don't have enough content to do squat in the SERPS.
 
They would only have access to this if you are using GA, otherwise they would be able to see if a user clicks "back" and returns to the search engine results.

Note that almost all of my traffic is from social networks now. I want to gain traffic from the SERPS by utilizing my large quantities of social traffic to boost my page ranks for niche related keywords. The keywords and article content is located on pages where I don't send any of the social traffic though, because they would all leave immediately if they saw that, they want to see corny top ten reasons to kiss your boyfriend type of photo galleries.

or chrome - please people don't forget CHROME IS SPYWARE and google will not hesitate to USE THIS INFO AGAINST YOU. I'm so paranoid about chrome that (if I used it) I wouldn't even visit sites like BHW while using it.
 
All you that are thinkin that Google can't track your website if you ain't using GA are joking right?

Would you please mind explaining how exactly google is going to see the behaviour of users on a website which they have completely no access to other than the published content? Of course assuming that webmaster tools, analytics, and adsense isn't used. I've always thought that the behaviour of visitors had no impact of serps, as google couldn't possibly have access to this information on every website on the web, therefore making it an unfair way to judge websites. But I'd love to be proven wrong as I'd only learn something new which would be great!

I'd venture to say: Chrome or the Google Toolbar ;)
 
well thanks for the feedback, I guess it won't work. But then again I might as well do a test with it.
 
Worth saying that the minute you add any Flash to a page (including Google's own Youtube video embed) there is a damn good chance that their visitor tracking will go belly up and stop tracking visitors to that page for ...well some length of time.
Google analytics is a long way from perfect. I've had days when a page has made more sales than Google says it's had visitors (and it has recorded some visitors)

If I believed it I'd have had a conversion rate of 120% on the CPA - instead of about 4.5% which is what I know I really get.

Just saying. It's not perfect.

I kind of like to know if you could clearing up just how closely google is going to see the conduct of folks on a web site which they have no right to use to other than the posted content. I've always thought that the behavior of site visitors had no effect, as google could not potentially have access to this info on every website on the internet. However its looks like hummingbird may have changed that by genetic clustering patterns and predicting modules of people's intent.
