I was just wondering how ebay handles their rankings? I just searched something, and it wasn't based on item post date. All the dates were random. Any idea how this works?

number of keywords in the search, along with many other factors.

similar to the big G.

By default, eBay list search returns in what they call Best Match sequence.

They tell you broadly how Best Match works in their Help pages. Go to Help and search for Best Match.
