Hi,

I am from Egypt and was thinking of making a site mainly targeting Egyptians.

I wanted to know what the advantages and disadvantages of .com and .com.eg

Thanks in advance

As far as ranking it does not affect search engine rankings, the only effect is psychological for example US people usually trust more to .com site instead of .com.er but for Egyptians it might be the other way around.

Since you are targeting only Egyptians for your niche then you should be fine . beltawfeeek ya mohamed :)

I am from Australia, and when targeting a local keyword, I have found MUCH more success with using .com.au over .com.

One reason for this may be that you need to provide an "ABN", which is an official record here in Australia - they also keep a very close watch on what you're using the domain for, it legally has to be related to your business. For this reason, you don't see spammy .com.au addresses, as such I think Google gives us a bit of a boost. I've been able to rank very fast without getting sandboxed using a .com.au.

Google by default redirects its audience to related country specific search engines. Results on country specific search engines are usually country specific result.

In your case, your website is designed for Egyptian audience, so your website will tend to rank high in .com.eg.

Merci ya gameel.

I am not fully aiming for Egyptians but they would constitute for almost 95% of the traffic

Sound great. Where do you suggest I buy the .com.eg. I saw it for like $97/year which is outrageous!
