how does backlinks to site affect ranking?

i use traffic travis (free version) to analyze keywords. i notice some kws have low backlinks to page, but really high backlinks to site. if the backlinks to site is in the millions, what does this mean for my ranking efforts?

If your page title is SEO friendly and content of that page is unique and of high quality then Google will index and boost your ranking ,even with lesser backlinks.

hi, this is true for lower comp kws i know, but for high comp kws i don't think this is the case. you can have the best on page seo but you'll need backlinks for the google algo to pay attention.

but ny question is how will the backlinks to site affect my rankings. i've built backlinks to my site. now i'm building to the page. anyone have experience with this?

Build backlinks to the page that you want to rank, you can out perform pages with few backlinks.
