    I usually put my exact phrase in H1, but maybe it prevents my sites from getting top positions. I've had a talk with a guy that also does SEO, showed me some #1 rankings of his sites and then said that he usually does not put targetted keyword into H1 tag as Google may perceive it a bit spammy nowadays.

    What is your experience with this?

    Try mixing it up.
    Do some H1 with a exact phrase,some with keyword and other words,some with no keyword at all and so on.
    Goolge wants to see a natural site, if you do all your H1 with exact phrase it dosn't look natural, but if you don't put keywords in you H1 at all it is still don't look natural.
    so mix it up

    Hi!. A H1 should in principle be linked to other documents, as its content should be important only for the document you are seeing. If we put a link on the H1, we will indicate to the page that the title is to which we link, not the current page.

    I don't even use H1's. They are antiquated and I have not seen any damage from leaving them out. With that in mind, I'd just be informational and honest of you are going to use them. Spamming them is retarded.

    From experience H1 tags containing your exact targeted keyword can come off as 'spammy'. However, using H1 tags within a structured content will help. Make sure you include it after html5 tags. So for example:

    Code:
    <article>
    <section>
    <h1>My title page containing similar words to my keyword</h1>
    <p>content here</p>
    </section>
    </article>

    I use H1 to highlight a LSI phrase for the page and then use the keyword I am targeting blended around contextual content

    I just mix them up, and do not overdo things. H1 tags are important but they are also prone to abuse and hence, if you always use your exact anchor, it may work against your purposes.
