When you have hit a dead end, or need to think about working something out, how do you work through it? Curious to what you guys do.

Personally, I go into a paint file and start drawing out diagrams or typing freely.

Ask my friends for advice, walk my ferrets,go to the forests or go snowboarding .

If its work related I'd try patch work or break through (hire someone specialized). If its personal work, purge and start from scratch with +1 knowledge

I ride my bike through the woods, one or two hours is enough to clear my mind

Frankly I smoke some weed and sit & meditate until an idea/solution comes to me. Preferably outside in the wonders of nature, detached from everything but my self and the problem at hand. I also have an enormous dry erase board for working through things when I don't feel like doing that or the fucker up there decided rain is in the cosmic cards today.

If you don't have a chill spot near you, you can do this in the shower.. run it on hot, sit ya ass down, and get to thinking.. focus on the sound of the water until your brain is a blank slate.

Completely clear your mind and the answers will come. Whether it be the solution or your self telling you perhaps it's best to move on and try something else.

Yah.. I should have been born for the 60's, but in the 60's IM didn't exist :p

I walk in circles for hours thinking about a solution but I dont ask for advice most of the time even when I know I should because I find it hard to ask for help from people that I personally know.

Unfortunately I can't stop if i hit a dead end. I will work relentlessly to the point i'll forget to sleep / eat.
To counter act this behavior i usually split the problem in sub-problems and when i can fix one of those, i just go to sleep / eat and restart.
Usually this behavior "unlocks" some solutions or some new point of views.
Basically divide et impera.
