How do you stay organized?

this blog post really helped me out https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/15677/zen-and-the-art-of-file-and-folder-organization/ highly recommend bookmarking+reading this to sort out the mess you likely have.

for personal info database you have many options.. i just migrated from cherrytree https://www.giuspen.com/cherrytree/ to obsidian notes https://obsidian.md/. notion is popular too. https://www.notion.so/

for tracking tasks i really like http://www.abstractspoon.com/ todo list software. super powerful compared to competitors. alternatively many people may like kanban boards such as https://wekan.github.io/

I have this issue. I set out learning about one service and now two days later I have about 200 referenced things to work through, all scattered and unsytematic.
I dont like apple notes it doesn’t let you create subfolders and seems to symplistic for anything except shopping lists. I am trying out an app called Notable instead.

Although for the really important things I think the old pen and paper / whiteboard/cork message boards and an actual physical calendar are best. And an app for everyday tasks and clutter.

One monthly to-do list in a word file, and one in a paint file.

Also well-organized folders and sub-folders.

In my main (firefox) and secondary (chrome) browsers well-organized bookmarks toolbar.

And lastly - and this seems to always be a work in progress - just trying to have as less shit as possible on the lap top and in my bookmarks and eveywhere.

But things seem to always pile up, and i do tasks and clean, and then it piles up again, and on and on it goes.

Im content with my organization. Not happy, not unhappy, but content.

sometimes i think best thing to do is delete all those thousands of bookmarks and archived files and just start a clean slate lol

Never head of Obsidian before. What's your personal opinion on it thus far?

What do you mean? It does support subfolders. It is simplistic for most part, I agree.

Yeah i know.

But my bookmarks toolbar is mostly well organized with folders and subfolders, with bookmarks of sites that i need accessible easily.

My other bookmarks, the ones where you click on bookmarks in the menu bar and the dropdown appears, those are problematic. I keep shit there and i remove and i add more and i remove and add more. And i always have more than i want to.

Ive cleaned those bookmarks radically in the past a few times. Still, i dont have the... I cant just delete all. Even when i deleted many and quickly i still took the time to open each bookmark and check the page.

Its just, i saved each bookmark for a reason. And even if it looks like i dont need it at first glance, i still feel the need to open the bookmark and check, just to make sure i can delete it.

I cant help myself.

i checked it out because of how popular it was online.
basic hierarchical notes with markdown. community plugin library. cool feature that cherrytree lacks. also much smaller memory footprint.
main reason i switched is futureproofing. ive heard some horror stories of peoples cherrytree db file getting corrupted and lost.
obsidian saves it all in plain text files/folders in a directory of your choice.

you may benefit from tool like https://alternativeto.net/software/storurl/about/ or https://alternativeto.net/software/linkstash/about/
import all your browser bookmarks
scan for dead links/301
quickly filter, sort them out with drag and drop into folders
export back into browser
i have 5k+ bookmarks. helped me big time to lighten the burden on my browser and mind.

I love how nobody is even talking about evernote anymore

am old school, i have 3 different diaries, one small pocket one to note down idea bursts, one todo and a big diary where i write down things i learn at work, personal life, inventory etc.

I also use Google sheets, Excel to maintain the orders, track etc

Am not good in using todos etc and i have lesser experience navigating that terrain which might mess with my productivity

I've made it a habit to write down all important stuff in a notepad
Otherwise, i'd have to think about the same thing over and over again to make sure I don't forget it

I use Google Keeps & Google Calendar.
Keeps to keep my notes and stuff, to keep it all together
and Calendar to ping myself whenever i need action taken that day or few minutes prior.
Probably not the best way to go abouts it but it is working for me.
Just do sometimes wish keep was a little bit more featureloaded :D

Whiteboard / window. Tried any method out there but this is the one that I keep going back to.

Before you go to bed write dont your most important tasks on a piece of paper .im this way you will program your mind to do that tasks and to be productive

Accounting in spreadsheets for business transactions. Handwritten planner for brainstorming/sketching out ideas. Also have a large glassboard I place checklist items on, or sometimes use as a Kanban board for moving multiple tasks to completion.

With that being said, I would focus only on the next step not the bigger picture.

I use Todoist to keep all due dates from different clients organized alongside Trello.

Both are free and do the job for me!!

I´ve also been playing lately with Taskade and thus far I find it interesting!

I have to organize my code and 50 projects to bootstrap. Plus work to live.

Can't say I am an organized person. I have no schedule for anything. I am rather focused on ditching as much useless and harmful stuff as I can.

That way I have 100% free time and I spend my free time doing all this stuff when I feel like doing it.

I wake up whenever I want and do boring work when it doesn't feel boring (so I do it rarely). My goal is to automate as much of the boring stuff as I can. I hope to generate 6 figures monthly and passively.

If I had to attend meetings and meet people, I'd try to organize myself, but I know I'd be late each and every time.

If I put some organization in place one day, I will for sure use task management apps like asana and jira.

I use clockify to track how much time it took to create a functionality, but I frequently forget about that.

I write pseudo-code and product ideas in windows 10 notes app. I keep some information there. I remove it when it's all done or obvious to me.

The most important thing to me is to organize code, so people who have to deal with it don't break down in the middle. Use frameworks guys. Write docs even for simple websites.
