How Do you start a Pay Per Download (Not PPI) Affiliate Program

I have my own software business and bundle useful shareware apps or Pay Per Install apps.

This is NOT PPI adware programs as can be found on the PPI forum. I'm not in the business of installing malware, adware, crapware, badware, installerbeware stuff on an end user's pc. Well, not anymore.

Anyway, does anyone know how I can start an affiliate program that would let me track when an install has taken place?

I mean, is it something embedded in the software executable, or does the tracking take place via the web site code, or what?

I guess after thinking it over a bit more, this really would be a PPI affiliate program after all, but not in the typical adware sense.

I figured since this is more whitehat, it would be ok here. If not, I really apologize!! I have posted on PPI forum as well.
