How do you retain knowledge gained from books?

Try to to make an emotional connection with the content in the book, that is decide if you agree or disagree with the basic principles and then note what content backs up your own preconceptions or more importantly challenges your preconceptions. You can do this factual or fictional material but make it about you! Emotions and odors help you remember but odors are kind of tough to pull off!

Just try to visualize EVERYTHING you read, and try to make up your own stories for things in order to connect them better. The more bizarre stories the better, that way you'll trigger an emotional response and remember stuff for sure. Does that make any sense?

I might try the video method because when I read a book I usually remember it only for a while but then I forget it.
I have tried note taking but I ended up with 400+ bits and pieces and that is a lot to remember.
Teaching someone about the subject is what I have been doing lately and seems to work.

Books do not contain knowledge. They contain information. The key is to understand that it 's you who turns information to knowledge. So, you need to work on your understanding of things. Focus while you read, let your mind draw the connections, and sharpen your evaluation process. Don't worry about memorising stuff, there 's no need for that in our times.

The best way to retain the knowledge is to put it immediately to work.
Only like this you will retain and profit from what you learnt very fast and very easily :)

I do 2 things.

1) highlight the parts of any page I'm interested in as I read the book, and make a note in the inside cover of what is interesting on what page.
2) Re-read the book focusing on the bits I highlighted, and write these into a notebook (I have 1 note book with the main points from 3 or 4 books)

Otherwise I can't remember jack shit.

When i try to read a story/novel book and turn to the next page and start reading i literally would forget what i read in the last page...that is why i never really liked reading books or tbh I think its because what i read isn't probably interesting enough for me. (i don't think i have actually finished any books in my whole life except for those small and quick story books you read in school as a kid)

But when it comes to reading something that teaches me (maybe for college or learning a new coding language book) i can remember just fine and what I think really helps is just reading it all over again. Notes also help and sleeping while you are still thinking about it also helps me remember.

If you are unable to retain the information or the key points, that simply means you do not need them...

Watching videos about that can help!

i think moving your eyes might help(dont know much about this, But try googlin)

Read it again and try to understand what you have read. By doing so, you can retain the knowledge that you have gained from the books.
