How do you read

I enjoy reading, especially when the article is written by professionals, but I find it difficult to read my school hand outs compared to the way I read businessday newspapers. I understand everything I read on newspapers than school handouts, how can this be solved because I feel like my lecturers copy and paste articles from Google and give us as handouts. And they may have copied it from a site that one of us is handling, Maybe a newbie lol. But to be serious how do you read. I Need your suggestions it will be of help to me.
