The title pretty much says it all. How would I rank a website with no/almost no text content? I'm looking at websites like image gallery and such and I'm wondering how they're ranked and how I would rank my own as I'm planning to start one. I always hear content is key and to have lots of articles on related content with keywords, but this seems pretty hard for a gallery-type / image heavy website. Any suggestions?

why not making some kw text on the bottom ?

link with the kw you like to rank for.

If you are using wordpress the you can go ahead with themes which comes with seo ability.
Give some description in those themes and social signals to your site.
hope this helps you out.

You can always add some sort of descriptive text or an somewhat related article. E.g. if you have a gallery featuring mountain sites write an article about the biggest mountains or how to climb one and weave your keywords in. Also make use of image alt names and descriptions. Other than that, anchor text backlinks and EMD are your friends.

many people will disagree with me on this one but far too many people think that to rank, you need a 1000 word LSI article that was wrote by a scholar. This aint the case. All you is the basics. Meta data, h1 tag, link to authority site and image with alt txt.

Dont get me wrong, the 1000 word lsi articles are beneficial and make ranking a little easier, but they are not NEEDED to rank. Just get the basics on your page and start backlinking

No content will mean less concentration on your site.

If you use WP, it will allow you meta structure, meta tags & images, that will be good for getting rankings.

You might want to use some non black text bud!

Tag your images, and get traffic from google images. I don't have articles on my site, and most of the traffic I get from Google images.

yep, alt description, file name and meta data should be enough. Group your galleries by theme and make sure the url has your desired phrase in it.

The main feature you'll have to optimize then would be the meta titles and meta descriptions. Also, you should write the images' alt texts.
As someone mentioned lil bit earlier - consider creating an 'about', 'FAQ' or 'contacts' page to have some text that can be filled with few keywords. Do this and you shall be fine ;)

Support it with a content heavy first tier. Use Wordpress so you can optimize all your basic on-page stuff.

add some description in the bottom of images, just small description but the best. also, play with alt tags.

and you should backlink all contents (every image) for that. dont just backlink your main url.

Do all the above and also backlink to the images and make sure the image filename is also your keyword. The niche +PR of your site is quite a big factor too.

- Alt texts
- An article/description in the footer
- About us, contact, FAQ pages - wich you can fill with keywords
- Name your images with KW, like MyKeyword001.jpg
- If possable, use tags/categorys
- Enable comments

For all related content you have, create web2.0s and backlink to innerpages
Hope i covered some of the things :)

You can easily rank websites without content, or pages without content and only pictures. It's all about links.

hey,why not make some pages with content if you really want to rank well, actually,it will be not east to rank without content, google cannot get your site's information from your sitemap, have heard someone do pretty well on one page website, they use different method to get there, but you should at least have some content on your website first

Your tier 1 backlinks need to have unique content related to your keyword.
