How do you rank a e-commerce site?

I have only a basic understanding of SEO, I was wondering if any of you can help me and point the way on how to start ranking my seo site. I'm so clueless I don't even know what I'm asking. Basically is there a step by step guide on how to rank a e-commerce site? I want to learn about seo but I don't know where to look for guides. Thanks.

learn beginners seo from Seomoz.org or seobook.com etc or simply search it on google, you will get a step by step pictorial and video explanation that how things work in seo.

Like any other site - you need to find the keywords people use while searching for products you sell and create content around those keywords. That's the base, find some SEO guides to fill the blanks.
