Hello, I'm looking to hire a VA. However, I'm not sure the way to 'control' them or make sure they are doing their work.

Do you guys use a plugin to create, like a 'clock-in' environment for them or you can see if they are not doing their work when you check their work later?

Like how do you know if they are actually working x amount of hours?

Hey! this means you pay them per hour? What task are you going to outcarve from your business?

Yes per hour! Just editing wordpress posts and formatting them right

Document the process, and time each part that you are doing yourself. Give a slight 5-10% time margin error for total. And if they are working on the processes you have outlined, and they go beyond X-time, then you want to be notified immediately.

If you are having no problem completing the work, and you can prove it can be done, then you can comfortably issue a warning to please step up their game or get the Alan Sugar finger! :)

Also keep some sort of notification method happening, like every time they finish editing a post, send you the name and done - and then you can periodically, or every time, go in and check them.

You could time them and depending on their time choose to cooperate or not with them

There are apps that take screenshots of your VA's screen every few minutes. I'd never personally do this as that is sheer invasion of privacy.
Better way is to create payment terms based on tasks or a fixed amount weekly or monthly and not number of hours or they'll drag their feet just to increase the number of hours worked for a higher payment.

VAs are trash. they have so many excuses later and just want their money. u have to keep an eye on them all the time.

Hi Mate, I suggest to use the free version of Trello for it to document what they did and how long it took. If you set up the columns by task status (for example backlog, working, done) you can also see automatically when the tasks are moved.

As for all VA topics: Timings can of course always be enlarged to gain more $$, but so you can set up a 1:1 Ratio which is hard to fake on the long run.

Trust and transparency are crucial. You can use project management tools to keep track of tasks and hours.

Usually, I complete the task and report the hours spent.

This is how I work with the majority of my clients. I understand it is a matter of trust, and I always earn it rather than demand it :)
