Yup. Doing them for years now, never had an issue and don't know anyone who had an issue. But you have to be smart about them. There are first in human trials, which pay more but are (slightly) riskier. They have been tested on animals before and it was fine, so it went to the next stage - human testing, and you're the new guinea pig.
Those should be avoided if you want to be very safe, but I know plenty of guys who do them anyway.
Me personally? I only do trials that have already been tested in humans before. Those trials are usually just about dosages, they try to find out when side effects start to appear. They sit you down and explain the possible side effects to you beforehand and what to expect, but if you're in a middle cohort, you most likely won't even notice anything at all. The worst I ever had was acid reflux that kept me up at night due to the drug.
But it's nothing severe and permanent, as these drugs have already been through first in human trials already and you know what to expect. They do a very thorough medical exam before you even get approved to get into the study in the first place, you work with doctors very, very closely and they monitor every little change.
You know what to expect at worst and if you can live with a little diarrhea, headache or acid reflux (in worst case scenario) for a week or two, then go for it. Safe as can be. I almost was run over by a bus when I was on my way to the clinic once, so I think the commute is more dangers than sitting in a hospital for 2 weeks and getting paid 3-4 grand a pop or more.
Most people are just afraid because they think "the government" is doing "human experiments". Like the CIA injecting africans with aids and shit.
In reality, it's just pharmacies bringing out new drugs, and they only want to avoid future law suits so they thoroughly test before the drug can be approved. And since it's pharmacies, they got tons of money.
