Hmm that's tricky.
I'm a freelancer and webpreneur like most guys here... I've done affiliate marketing and made bank with that, but also got burned a few times too. Got to be financially secure enough for the risk, which isn't always the case when you have a few bad months with your base income.
I try to put 20% away, which usually goes back out on impulse purchases lol
So yeah mostly freelance SEO stuff via odesk and elance. Works fairly well as I'm ranked in the top 10% of SEOs on both sites, with a 4.85/5 rating on oDesk. I've charged as much as $80.00/hr for general marketing stuff as well.
Right now I'm working on 2 niche authority sites as I hate micro-niche stuff. Monetizing both with AdSense and Amazon.

In BHW you will find tons of method & money making tutorial. Just find your self what is perfect for you. I hv started my IM journey with CPA then Amazon Affiliate, PPD now im doing FB marketing & trying to learn SEO & want to do Google AdSense.
How ever, Discover your self what is perfect & easy to do for you & you interested to do. If you are starting something for money but you dont hv any interest about it then you cant be success with it.

Blogging, with adsense and content.ad, i make more money with content.ad than adsense for some reason but still not good enough
Personally I think every business whether it is online or offline requires you to have a product or
a decent affiliate program you are marketing. After that it comes down to gaining business relationships
and figuring out a way to generate sales which usually means traffic.
