How do you keep backups?

Hi, due to online cloud storage privacy issues, I switched to external hdds and my MAIN ext hdd ( 5 tb seagate ) is not working and I had my passwords there in excel, luckily temp version of excel file was there from last night so was able to recover that pass file sheet. I used excel to keep passwords because I would have passwords for each site like 16 random characters and not any regular word. Tried multiple softwares to recover but nope and I think I will loose about 4.1 TB of data if I cannot recover.

So, how do you keep backup of your big work files and such and which privacy friendly password manager you use, if you use any?

I would also like to know people's opinions on this.
I have 8 terabytes of data that I need to store.
The data is currently in several hard drives in my main PC but I believe it would be better to have that data in the cloud.
The problem is that the majority of the data are expensive courses that I collected.
DMCA and privacy is an issue.

Mega seems to be the best option.
Never had a problem with copywriter files stored in it.

Mega is one of the cheapest I’ve found for the size they go up to. For cloud storage anyway.

But you need to keep the local drive storage as well - external HD’s would be best as you can get them daily cheap.

best practice for backups is to gave the data in two completely different physical locations (and with different providers. If it’s static content that’s sufficient, if it changes regularly then you want revision history as well.

I use external HD with its own software for password locking. Doing update for all my data every few months with it.

I have external storage copy for all of my data in PCs, got two copies of most important data (read passwords, images etc) in 2 different pendrives and they're also regularly exported to Tresorit. I use KeePass as my password manager for tresorit and other services.

Great advice, I agree it is better to keep the local drive storage with an external storage solution.
That way I only need to power the storage drive when needed instead of always on.
And to have an online backup.
That way I keep data in two completely different physical locations.
I was using LastPass for password management but will see KeePass too.

I have a VeraCrypt https://www.veracrypt.fr/en/Home.html directory that I sync to Backblaze https://www.backblaze.com/cloud-backup.html

Obviously it only syncs when I re-seal the drive at the end of the day, but daily backups are enough for the sort of files I work on in that context.

Everything else that needs rapid sync with low security concern I still use Dropbox.
