as the title says how do you guys find your niche and did it take you a long time?

im looking to make a blog and im really into the tech/mobile market so i was wondering if that would be a viable key topic about my blog? but thats not really a niche its more mass market? which is why i dont know if its the right thing to do. should i look for a niche and what would be good requirements if there are any?

    thanks in advance

It would be quite hard to rank a mass market, especialy a tech one. If you know something about that niche, something special, go for micro niche. You can write your own articles then, which will save you money, and you will be able to control content uniqueness.

About niche - it's really up to you. Just follow simple rules when searchin for one. Don't go for saturated market, unless there's special oportunity (low seo level), and you have much money and time to spend. If you specialize in something about tech, what will help you provide micro niche content, then go for it.

In fact it is a niche of mobile phones, but that does not count as a micro niche. I think it's already saturated. Play a bit with google adwords or any other paid keyword searcher. Focus on unsaturated ones, and rank them. If you know what you're doing, then do it. But if you want my opinion - I wouldn't go for it :)

I don't. You have to find your own keywords, make your own research. It's not as hard as it sounds, only needs a bit of time and willingness. :)

Finding a niche solely depends on an individual. If he likes and is passionate about a thing, work or a hobby, he could make that a niche. As far as tech is concerned, if you have the latest news, writing skill and info about the happenings in the tech world, you are the god. But hardwork always pay. Try it out with your whole heart and see the results.

Mass market is quite huge and knowing that you are just starting, I suggest you better find a certain niche for you to have focus and later embrace mass marketing. ;) take it piece by piece.

i would say, DO NOT GO FOR iPHONE or SAMSUNG GALAXY ...this market is saturated and the ROI (return on investment) will be low.
for the 1st project, you should find something easier....so when you will get some money, you can actually be more motivated to work and go forward

lol tbh all the replies here in the OPs thread isnt helping...he asked how you guys are able to find the niches...but everyone here in telling him to find niches on his own.

seriously, if he knew that would he ask this question ?

i think what he needs to know is a list of tools or thread links that could help him learn how to do this thing.

I charge a fee to do keyword research for people, so I'm not going to divulge my entire strategy...
There are a lot of places online where you can find methods for choosing a niche you can easily compete in.

I use google adwords keyword tool to find the initial keyword phrases. It's really easy and fast if you know what you're doing.

When I find a phrase that has enough monthly searches and is something I think is easy to monetize, I make sure the number of results in Google isn't too high. If that's good, I start checking the on and off site SEO for the sites on the first page.

That's basic keyword research in a nutshell. Works for a lot of different types of sites, including micr niche, authority, and blogs.

That is if your main source of traffic is going to be search results and SERPs. There are other ways to get traffic, like guest blogging, seo jacking, and strategic advertising.

In your case, the keyword should be something you're passionate about. There should be great niches within the broad one you've picked. Another option is to just start writing that broad blog. If it's really great, it will gain traction with people who like that kind of topic and you'll get traffic and eventually be able to monetize it. However, that can take 6 months to a few years.

Definitely, first you should go for niche marketing. Niche marketing simply refers to the subset of mass marketing. We know that in case of any technology and mobile, initially, one group gets attracted towards latest products available to them. After this, some more people get attracted towards them, so that business get expanded. Therefore, I should suggest you to proceed via niche marketing, so that you can grab attraction of large numbers of customers.

If you are into tech side then just dig deeper. Like: Technology> Mobile> Iphone> I phone Apps> Iphone Games etc. then after choosing your final niche Go to market Samurai and Google adward keyword research tool and choose some related best keywords then build the blog. that's it. :)

Tech is hard because you have to literally stay on top of the breaking news. Not sayin impossible but the odds are stacked against you. You are competing with several billion dollar companies that have the inside scoop. But if your passionate find a microniche of iPhones or galaxies and go for it. (make sure it's low comp)

I use amazon to get ideas based off of catagories, then use adwords for research on keywords. Works great, but the best niches are always going to be things that you like or are passionate about. Then if you are writing your own content, it's easy to write about!!

I use google keyword tool , think of something I like, search it, look at the cpc and the competition if I like it I choose it. If it's something I'm interested in but the comp is to high, I tweak the wording a little bit. For example Rum Cake ... if it had a lot of competion, i look at the broad search ... I see bacardi rum cake is decent, I do a search again using bacardi rum cake. if i see a result that is low competion, decent cpc and good search i pick it.
