How do you guys build your sites?

WordPress is by far the best platform to build your site as it gives you so much flexibility to customize every part of your site. I use it on my site as i don't have much knowledge of html coding, this just removes a big obstacle for me.

I use mostly WordPress, and for some simpler things standard HTML.

I think the Internet is like 90% WordPress now. That's how good it is!

I don't think its quite that much, but probably around 50% or something. It's crazy how popular it is. Its also kinda scary... given the risk of hackers

People recommend wordpress too much.

Here is what you do OP:

1) Come up with a general idea of what you want your design to be like.
2) Go to DP or some similar site and pay someone to create the design for you in photoshop. They will design the layout of the site. Banners and everything. They will do as many pages as you want. At this point your site is only a bunch of pictures.
3) Again go to DP or some similar site and pay someone who can actually code valid html/js/php to convert your site from a picture into the actual site. Most people also charge per page that they have to do.
4) In the process of all of this, especially coding, you should make sure that the people who are working for you are taking SEO into account. The site should be built according to SEO standards. h1, titles, descriptions...etc.

Enjoy your custom-made and professionally designed optimized site. Not doing it in wordpress gives you much more flexibility to modify the site and not have to dig through wordpress settings or code.

So if you have 20 micro niche sites, you are using 20 WordPress installs?

This is what I do:

Buy a domain
Set the DNS to whatever host I plan to use it on
Log into my control panel for that host
Setup the domain
One-click install wordpress
Log in to wordpress, install the WPMUDEV dashboard plugin (WPMUDEV is not free, but its really nice)
Once the wpmudev dashboard is installed, I can one-click install any of the plugins or themes that they offer right from the dashboard
Then I install a couple of other plugins that I keep in a folder, just for setting up new wp sites

I can go from domain purchase to operating website in about 10 minutes, with facebook and twitter integration.

Of course, the first time took quite a while longer. But soon I got it down as a system and now its really just a few minutes to set up a new site.

So if you have 20 micro niche sites, you are using 20 WordPress installs?

Yes, that is what I do.

Although with wp multisite, I belive you can set them all up on one domain. I personally wouldnt do that, but I do believe it is possible.

I've used Xsite Pro II for some projects.

Dirt simple to use (easier than Wordpress imo), they SEO fairly nice (my sites seem to rank the same if not better than WP sites), and...I believe their is a free download available at BHW : )

That said, it's not the best option for a large site. I think the largest I've built with it might be 60 pages at most.

Best regards.

Wordpress - easy to learn. If you have a niche in mind already, and a name, go buy your own domain name and hosting, install wordpress and necessary plugins. There are many plugins available, you will learn that in your research.
