    Bolo334- that seems to do just about everything WP DB Backup does, only at a price. Only thing I can see is that it has the possibility to exclude directory and files from the backup.

    I export and download the SQL file through phpmyadmin, then compress and download the public_html directory as a zip

    If I want to get really fancy, I use a php script called transload and move the zip to another server in about 2 seconds.

    When migrating, I export the sql file, however I untick the "save as a file" box and then copy and paste into the new database and use transload to migrate the whole site as a zip.

    I admin over 150 sites, so this seems to work for me

    Another vote for mysql dump on text file (compressed with phpmysql if too large) + zipping the html root folder. HTH.

    I use "WP-DB-Backup" Plugin for database backup and "Wordpress Backup (by BTE)" Plugin for backing up Images, Theme and Plugins Folder. Also use "Export" option under the "Tools" menu in the Wordpress dashboard.

    Thanks for mentioning the BTE plugin. I've been casually wondering how I was going to backup my themes and plugins. Looks like I have a solution.

    Anyone else needing a file backup for wp should look into this. It has all the options of the WP-DB backup I recommended earlier, it can email backups, schedule them, etc.

    do you have shell access to your server? then you could write a small shell script to backup your files and database contents to amazon s3 storage services. very reliable and cheap prices.but dont just create a backup plan, also create a restore concept. nothing is more worse to have all files backed up but dont know how to restore them within a short time on failure. for myself an important part. (i'm backing up my files and database dumps on FTP every night at 1:45)

    MySQLdump and cron. Below is a part of my script which I use to backup all my mysql databases on my server.

    Code:

    for db in `find /var/lib/mysql/ -type d`
    do
        db2=$(basename $db)
       /usr/bin/mysqldump --user root --password="youradminpasswd" --opt $db2 | bzip2 -c > /home/dump/$db2.sql.bz2
    done

    manual backups comes in handy when something is really messed up. but scheduling time for backing up is difficult for many of us.

    so, it's better we use some auto backup plugins
