How do you get real targeted Twitter followers?

I'm not looking to buy followers or exchange for them. I have an AddMeFast account loaded up, but I don't want to go that route. I want to stay legit. It seems like there's a courtesy rule that people you follow will follow you back? I've heard there's peak hours to this too, does anyone know them? Is there a way to speed up the process? And this isn't the only method, is it?

I'm pretty late on the Twitter game, but I'm ready to hop on and and start learning.

Organically. The more ground work you lay for social networking the more real your friends are then the better conversions

I recently stumbled on a program called SocialWax, Username: socialwaxer on Twitter, where the user enters keywords into the program, which then favorites a certain number of tweets a day. It's a good way to gain relevant followers (as opposed to buying followers in bulk). If you're are targeting keywords that relate to the content you are sharing, you will almost immediately see an uptick in followers and RTs.

You don't really need that. Find an imacro script here on BHW that favorites tweets based on the keyword you put in. Saves yourself alot of money. And same goes for follow. Simply use the imacro script follower and follow a big account on their "followers" list thats related in your niche.
 
Follow first and post interesting stuff OP - you'll build up (quality) followers over time. :)
 
the best way to get real targeted followers is by actually interacting with the social media website that you want to gain an influence on.

please don't be boring with that generic BS...it's so crowded these days, you can interact all day long for months and still not get a 1000+ following.
 
I don't think that you can get a lot of followers if you are not a famous person (celebrity). For an ordinary Joe it's best to follow other people and pray that they're going to follow you back.
 
agree. yet people insist to believe that BS: "just create great content and you'll grow on social media" :))) dude...you need more than great content.

Real targeted followers are a little hard to get randomly
 
I run many clients accounts and if your not getting followers its simply because your waisting your time following who you think is the best fit. Its all about demographic targeting and finding your target audience.

Its no lie that people buy followers so you would be following a bunch of bots if you didn't have the right tools to weed out spam account and such.
