How do you get ads in the Google Map Pack

Title says it all. I have looked this up on google and the information out there is confusing. They all say you need to do something in google my business then this then that and I just get lost. I went to google my business and went to create ad and it took me to adwords express. I already have an adwords account (no express).

Is adwords express the key to this? Am I missing something really obvious?

You need to connect your Google my Business page to your AdWords account. Then only run campaigns local to your ad.

Add location extension to adwords campaign
