Yes, it does help, but I would also like to know like some tips or some info on how people do it. Maybe figure out a faster way to format things.
The first book I self-published, I did all the formatting myself. Edited the first parts of the book with the legal information and all that myself. I used some of my favorite books to understand the format and just spaced everything out accordingly. You will also want to know the margins and spacing depending on the size of your book. For example, a standard 6x9, you will want to look here:
https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G201834190 - All you need to know is the book size you are writing (6x9 or 5x8 or whatever) and look at the margins.
From there you basically need to just put in your text and edit the different pages and sections.
The SECOND and ONward books I wrote, I used Amazon's Templates.
https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G201834230 They give you already formatted templates, all you need to do is edit all the sections and input your text.
There are some small issues that come up with editing that might happen when you copy paste, and you might want more customization but it really isn't possible to answer every editing issue that comes up.
You may want to hire someone else to format it for you if it is really too difficult, but those two resources right there should get you going for the basics.
I would say the best thing for you is to just use the templates.
