How do you determine if a backlink is worth or not?

Hi, Im NEW in SEO and want to build backlink for my site, but dont know what kind of backlink is worth it.
So, when you build backlinks for your website, what factors do you consider that backlink valuable to your website?

these days backlinks from sites with real traffic.... guest posts is the most valuable ones from my perspective....

Backlink renting is a novel technique, first time hearing that. Awesome.

To op, this technique seems plausible. In addition to that make sure that the page is in top 50 of Google search results for your search term to get the best results.

1. it comes from high authority site (site that has DR of 80+)

2. if the site does not have DR 80+ then at least it must rank in google and get good traffic (100s of visitors per month, but it can go lower than that if the niche is small, but the important part is for the website to rank and get traffic)

3. is a d0-foll0w link (although, if it comes from high authority websites nofollow will work, too)

4. preferably is placed on the homepage, but if that's not possible (homepage links are usually reserved for the partners of that website), inner page links will work, too as long as the page is indexed. If you're buying a guest post, however the page will obviously not be indexed at that time, but if the site is legit it will still be a good link.

5. the page where your link comes from doesn't have many OBL (Outbound Links, or external links as they're also called). Oh, and the website doesn't need to be seen as link farm, this is also important. If the website links out to websites that no one in that niche has ever heard of, with each piece of content that it publishes it's definitely a link farm (a website created specifically to sell links), and even if this website is currently fine, at some point google - in their never dying hate towards affiliates - will take this website down from its index.

The number of OBLs that is safe to have depends on a lot of things, such as how big the site is (obviously that a big site, that google likes and trusts, can get away with a lot more things than smaller sites), what niche it's in, what other websites it links out to (if it links out to low quality sites it's obviously worse than if it only links out to big brands, and quality sites in general)

6. it's placed inside of content. In general, in-content links (links that are placed inside the article, or surrounded by a small block of text anyway) are generally better than footer / sidebar links. Again, in general, because sometimes a link coming from a page called "our partners" from a big ecommerce website in your country / local area, that only has a list of logos linked to other businesses might do better for your rankings than a guest post on a 6 months old affiliate website

Guest post on another site with same niche, make some contextual backlink on web 2.0, edu, gov, etc
And make sure, all the links can indexed

After earning your latest link, the first metric you should check is whether that link was from a unique root domain or not. Think of each backlink to your website as a testimonial, and Google is viewing your site deciding whether or not to buy. If Google looks at your website and notices you have 15 testimonials from the same person, it’s far less convincing than 15 testimonials from 15 different people.
In fact, it might be a little suspicious if your link profile is small yet filled with links from the same source. Diversification is key.

You must inspect many things.

Check the backlink profile of the site manually to see what kind of links are pointing to the site. DA means nothing these days.
Check for indexability
Check the trust flow VS the DA score
Check niche matching
Check the content type of the site. eg. rubbish spammy posts
Check where the site actually ranks.
Do not pay attention to traffic. Traffic is NOT a ranking factor when it comes to the power of a backlink
Use several SEO tools. Do not rely on one tool because each one will give you a different story. Compile what you have learnt from each tool .
Never trust DA scores. As mentioned they mean nothing. Thousands of websites and blogs manipulate the metrics so sell links on complete rubbish. Even on sites without metrics manipulation the representation of many sites actual true organic authority is not even close to presenting an accurate value or representation

Avoid sites with thousands of rubbish trash blog comment links
Check the do-follow/nofollow ratio
If a site has just 200 referring domains. DA20 but all great links pointing to it and its a great niche match. Buy it. !
Check the "Domain Age"
Check for fake trash redirect notice links created to make a fake DA score
Real and quality websites often have a good citation flow
Avoid PBN or pure link selling blogs.
Look for websites that actually operate as a "Real Website" as opposed to a site that only exists for the purpose of selling links
Don't focus on MOZ DA score Ever! Learn to judge the true authority and quality of a site via a manual inspection. You will need to inspect both the 1st and 2nd tier backlink profiles

Unique domains do not matter. If you get a backlink from the same domain but to a different page on your website this is a good thing.
Yes getting a link from the same website twice does help your websites overall authority as long as its to a different page which helps the link juice pass through your pages.

You can try editorial links also boost the organic search ranking of the website. High profile publications like the huffington post has a high domain authority (DA), and is trusted by search engines as being good sites. Therefore links to your site, the search engines passes that trust on to your website.

See the traffic flow, domain age, relevancy, content relevancy.

Check the backlinks of your competitors (not the authority brands) who rank on first page, what type they have are worth to have.

I'm old school.

I'm not all that concerned with how many backlinks my websites get.

I know that sounds crazy but it worked well for me.

Why? I focus on the quality of my content.


And this is why it's really important when doing backlink outreach to focus on value.

If that page that you're trying to get a link from actually links to your target page, will you be delivering value to the people clicking that link?


Forget about Google for a second.

Focus on what value your page brings to the table.

If you're confident that you can deliver on their expectations and there is traffic from the page linking to you, then that is a good backlink.


Other than that, it's probably not worth it.

You probably would be better off improving the experience of people who find themselves on your pages.
