    Hi All,
I am working as an Affiliate Developer and I am not here to promote my Program... At least not telling you how good and how rich you can become...
I don't belive in this kind of, let's say "cheap" advertising and I do think we are all tired of it!
Affiliate Programs - we have plenty of them! Nowadays you can be an Affiliate for almost everything...
The decision is made according to your niche or other issues. Nothing new till here...

But, I do want to hear from some of the members here "How do you define a good Affiliate Manager?"...
Maybe, someone might be thinking, why is it important?
From my perspective of being in contact with good Affiliates, it will be very helpful making acertive decisions and create a profitable partnership with those that I am working with...
    Some tips?

Communication. I can't tell you how many times I've had my emails ignored when asking questions. I pretty much stopped using max bounty because my AM would almost never respond. At another network I've been having major conversion issues and was asking for months to have it looked into. Finally my third AM is actually going through my phone calls for the offer manually to check why my conversions have been consistently going down.

My problem with most affiliate managers is: they are just trying to learn marketing methods from successful affiliates for their own affiliate biz. I think affiliate managers should be required to sign a non-compete when they start their job.

I think about this work as an partnership, so then we improve our work together. I must say that makes sense what you say, but again: what is the point of this competition? Who's earning from that?

    I promote several different niches.

Yeah on this one I don't like to tell my AM how I promote things for fear of them trying to steal the idea.

I think the main role of an AM is to act as a catalyst for publishers. Spark creative ideas, convey information when new niches or sources of traffic emerge, and so on. I cannot tell you how many times a simple IM or email has been sent with minimal information, "daily deal sites are booming right now, i would start with our CA offers for this niche, hitting these cities, targeting females 24-48..top converting creatives and copy include major discounts on food, salon treatments, tickets to shows...let me know if you need anything"

And from there, a publisher takes the information and does what he or she does...

I am a firm believer that relationships matter in business but when you get to the foundation of what AM's are, they're a tool to make money for the network and the publisher, learning about publishers family, friends, interests is great and maybe you'll decide to use one network VS the other based off a relationship but if you have an AM sparking ideas and helping you grow traffic, diversify niches, does it really matter that he remembers your birthday and knows the name of your dog? Probably not would be my guess.

An AM should be a very good coach and open to new ideas and realize that affiliate 1 and affiliate 2 are not the same and the terms should not always be the same. I am a AM and an affiliat and I have learned what NOT to do from some big companies with bad AM's.

It's important to stay in contact at least every couple weeks with real and legit to the point emails.

Reply to me when I ask a question.

Give me feedback to boost conversions.

Don't be too nosey into my business, (never been a problem for me yet)

Ohh and don't try and accuse me of being a spammer or anything else because I earn too much or my alexa rank "just isn't right". I've told 2 networks to get f%*ked because of my alexa rank or something else. Their main concern should be how to make me more money, and not my friggin alexa rank.

Many programs recruit AMs from their base of affiliates. They keep on promoting programs as well as working as AM. As AM they have access to a lot of data that will allow them to observe competing affiliates and their methods and use it against them for personal benefit.
    It's a conflict of interest.

It suppose to be a work that you both do together, no? I understand your fear and I don't know the kind of Affiliate you are dealing with... but once you're working together makes sense that both of you promote your projects together... it's a mutual interest, no?

Now it's clear... but as you said, it will depend in which kind of program... In this case the AM can be the competitor of his own Affiliate... conflict of interst is a good term for that! Good point!

I would say that to know personal details of the person that you are working with it's good for the relationship, but not so effective for business. And that's my interest here. There are personal and mutual interest, and this in certain point, should be together. From my perspective once we are dealing with some professionals who knows how to develop their projects, managing their advertising, great! We just keep giving them support and being avaliable for all kind of service! If not, which tools do we need for creating better conditions for their work... and for that the AM must also be aware of marketing tools, so on. I would walk through this direction...

Prompt communication, diligent guidance and encouragement for affiliates are the best qualities of an AM.

Typlo said it well. It will vary from people to people. But for me my AM should help me with ideas and information.
Oh and the last thing, shouldn't be too nosey. :p
