How do you guys manage to come up with new content ideas?

I'm strictly talking about informational content, not buyer intent/marketing/etc.

Do you solely rely on keyword research and go from there?

What are your methods to go deep enough into a niche? I mean, how far do you really go?

I'm struggling to find content topics recently. Any help / pointers would be highly appreciated.

I start with keyword research.

Google the topic and see what other sites are publishing. Put those webpages into Ahrefs/Semrush and see what other long tail keywords they're ranking for.

And try to keep up with what's in the news if it's relevant to your niche - if something big happens, you can be very successful at getting content out there early, if the competition isn't particularly tough.

What's your process?

Think of the problems that the end consumers of your niche's product or service face and Google research what are the current solutions to those problems and this mix triggers (atleast for me) some unique content topics (and content).

Informative content: Google trends is my good friend.
Affiliate content: I have learnt to steal content structure & keywords. Thanks to BHW it's been a great resource.

@Alexion,

Here's what I do BEFORE I write articles:
1. I do keyword research using Google Keyword Planner. I don't need a premium keyword research tool for the sake of content ideation.
2. Depending on what keywords I got (according to the parameters I've set), I will search for related articles on Google using each keyword.
3. I will jot down pointers or content ideas from the top 10 related pages on the first page of Google. I also use the free version of Ubersuggest for content ideation.
4. I also check related Reddit subforums to see if there are trending topics or subtopics related to my subject.

I have other techniques but these four steps above are more than enough for me to come up with a non-regurgitated article that's better than the first 10 pages on Google's SERPs (search engine result pages).

  • Search on Google for your main keyword.
  • Find the niche-relevant sites that are ranking. (Avoid general niche sites, social media pages/groups, wikis etc.)
  • If you don't have enough sites, search for a few other keywords.
  • After getting 15-20 sites in your niche, check their top ranking keywords from SEO tools like Ahrefs, Semrush, Ubersuggest etc.
You'll get a list of keywords. Now, sort them into multiple categories and create content.

Analysis of competitors, mainly blogs and YouTube channels, Google Trend.

I start from keyword research, if you do it well enough you will always have ideas on which to write new articles. ;)

in my suggestion, you can write similar as other bloggers write articles on their blog. people want more suggestions from different blogs. this way you will get good traffic to your blog.

Use Google Search Suggestions, Read Blog Comments,
Research Social Media,
Create Topics in Batches. When you sit down to write, coming up with a topic shouldn't be the first thing you do.

By doing what i write about. Taking an active role in your own niche is a fantastic way to uncover loads of questions and content ideas.

Very useful tips

keyword research is all you need.

I come up with content ideas by following these steps.

I come up with a list of my top 20 competitors.

I enter those domains into SEO tools to find the keywords and topics that they already rank for.

I run a ranking difficulty analysis on the keywords my competitors are ranking for.

I then analyze their content to see if they truly deliver on the keywords that those pieces of content are ranking for.

Believe it or not, at this stage of my analysis, a significant chunk of my competitor's content doesn't directly address the search intent behind the keywords their content ranks for.

I zero in on these pieces of content, and then I look at other related content that the target keyword brings up when I do a Google search.

I then come up with my own version and also cross-reference my LSI keywords as well as the subheadings and topics I raise with tools like Surfer SEO.

You have to understand that coming up with content ideas is the easy part.

The more challenging part is coming up with content that will have an impact.
